Apple’s latest iPhone, the iPhone 4S has been a raging success for the stylish tech company, so why then are Chinese vendors slashing prices on the 5th generation iPhone by as much as 3000 Yuan ($470)?

Regular readers may well know that the iPhone 4S has not been officially launched in China or Hong Kong, but has still managed to find it’s way on to the grey market.

The iPhone 4S went on sale in China just days after the official US release for upwards of 10,500 Yuan ($1350), but at a recent visit to the Huaqiang North Electronics market in China, reporters were shocked to discover the iPhone 4S easily available and at a much lower price of 7000 Yuan ($1100).

Sellers at the popular grey and fake goods market commented that a strong supply of iPhone 4S combined with the number of competing shops in the market had driven prices down.

The iPhone 4S is the first iPhone which has been easily available for smugglers to get unlocked and in large quantities making them much easier to sell than the previous iPhone 4.

Many smugglers are heading to Canada and bringing back upwards of 45 iPhone 4S’s each in an attempt to cash in, and it is expected that this constant flow of iPhone 4S along with the shear demand will drive iPhone 4S prices down to the 5000 Yuan ($783) mark by Christmas!
