Nubia Z5 Hands on photos surface! Get’s NFC and LTE!

If you didn’t already know, the big news today is the official launch of the ZTE Nubia Z5 which kicked off at 2pm in Beijing! Now, just a few hours later we have hands on photos and more specification details!

The Nubia Z5 finally became official today in China, and while the phone remains a Chinese only launch, their are hardware features which are going to have many international customers doing their best to grab one!

ZTE Nubia Z5 7.5mm body

One of the stand out features of the Nubia Z5 is it’s super thin body! Measuring in at between 7.5mm and 8mm this flagship Chinese phone has actually managed to beat rivals and become the worlds thinnest phablet type device!

ZTE nubia z5 5inch display

Japanese screen maker Sharp have been enrolled in to the development of the Z5 and they have produced a custom 5-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution unit with 443PPi to provided a full 1080 HD experience while on the go! This awesome screen is bordered by an uber thin 2.67mm bezel which ZTE claim to be the thinnest.

zte nubia z5 rear camera

The rear camera of the Nubia Z5 is a 13 mega-pixel unit which we suspect is the same Sony unit Oppo are using in the Find 5. While this hasn’t been confirmed we do know the Z5’s camera has a f2.2 aperture and specially coated lens to reduce glare.

ZTE have opted for a micro sim on the Z5 despite the phone measuring in with such a wafer thin profile!

zte confirm nubia z5 to be LTE

Although the Nubia Z5 is only going to be available in China (officially), ZTE have gone ahead and made their 5-incher compatible with GSM / CDMA / WCDMA / EVDO and LTE networks despite the current lack of LTE service on the Chinese mainland.

Nubia z5 NFC

The Nubia flagship phone will also be one of the first NFC equipped phones in China which will be capable of making purchases and paying for transportation and it is expect that ZTE will announce cooperations with major retailers over the next few months for customers to make use of this feature.

zte nubia z5 specification

Under the Italian designed exterior, the Nubia Z5 packs a 1.5Ghz Qualcomm APQ8064 quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and 3000mah battery (conflicting reports suggest a 2300mAh battery) along with 32Gb of on-board storage all of which weighs in at an impressive 126grams!

The standard 32GB Nubia Z5 will go on sale in January for 3500 Yuan while a limited edition titanium model will go for nearer to 8000 Yuan!

Andi, is the back of the Oppo Find 5 made of Aluminum, while the Zte Nubia plastic? Also is the titanium version of the Z5 made of titanium? Thanks

      Yes, Yes and Yes 🙂

So the backside of the Find 5 is some sort of powder-coated aluminum? It sure looked like a kind of matte plastic composite material in the Engadget & Android Authority hands-on videos. Would definitely make me take a longer, harder look at the Find 5 when it comes out.

Marketing is only going to get you so far!
At some point the iSheep will have devices so far behind the curve even they will realise they have been ripped off and locked up.
This is what happens when a company like Apple do not control/invent but just manage the labours of others.

p.s. The really exciting product will be next years! But 12 months is an eternity for the share price of a company like Apple.

ZTE Nubia has LTE and Oppo Find5 doesn’t.
    Will Z5 work in Europe?

    Does it support microSD.

Careful with the LTE. During the presentation, there was a slide showing the Nubia “supported” GSM / WCDMA / CDMA / LTE but the official Nubia specifications page makes no mention of LTE. That might mean the hardware inside the Nubia “supports” LTE but it hasn’t been enabled for this version. Perhaps later versions or versions sold outside China will have the LTE enabled. Not clear at this point.

The design of the Oppo 5 Kills the Z5. I am choosing a 32GB one for sure.

I can’t say how much I dislike the sensor/front facing camera completely spoiling the look. Oppo really did well, even in white it looks great. I can put up with the thickness as the battery is 2300 on the Z5 – confirmed on the website. Click middle tab – http://www.nubia.cn/product/s326.html

The Z5 looks almost cheap, especially the back. Not the finish (which I think Oppo also wins on) but the curved sides and central camera. Love the aluminum camera surround on the Oppo 5. Also if it has an alloy back it’s kills the Z5 again. I think it might find sympathy with iPad people though.
Titanium – f###ing unreal, have been waiting for a titanium phone like forever, preferably with ceramic rear. Come on Oppo.

Price, yeah, memory 32gb is whats needed. Saw the international sales/32gb thing on the Oppo forum the other day. Prices I suspect will drop soon.

The Camera on the Z5 does say BSI Cmos on the website (link above), so I imagine it’s the stacked HDR type, the flash doesn’t look so good. No mention of slow motion.

LTE etc, who knows where Oppo/Nubia will end up at.

The Oppo was an engineering sample, so it might end up looking even better/thinner bezel. It only loses ‘perhaps’ in LTE support.

Sorry, it’s a clear cut Oppo 5 victory IMHO. Unless ZTE drop the price.

    BUT

There is the ZTE grand S 🙂 I imagine it’ll have to be cheaper. Launches CES 2013. Design isn’t so great though.

Hopefully Oppo makes an LTE version of the Find 5, will definitely buy that because of the material.

Everyone’s talking about LTE, but there’s no mention of it on the Nubia specs page. True, Qualcomm baseband chips “support” LTE, but my guess is that the current Nubia does not have LTE enabled since it’s useless in China (LTE is only is testing phase in various cities). Engadget China mentions “future international versions” of the Nubia will have LTE enabled.

    Take it as you wish.
