The Cubot A6589 is a quad-core MT6589 Galaxy Note 2 clone available now!

If you have never heard of Cubot then you are not alone, but the phone maker is set to make its presence known with their quad-core MT6589, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 clone!

Now, you might not have heard of Cubot before, but I am pretty confident you have seen the design of the A6589 over the past few months. The exterior is identical in design to the Zopo ZP950 phablet and THL W7, both of which are 5.7-inch Android phablets with Galaxy Note 2 influences.

We wouldn’t be all that surprised if the Cubot A6589 is made by either Zopo or THL either, however unlike the other 2 Chinese phablet the Cubot is running the latest quad-core Mediatek MT6589 processor for more performance and better battery life!

Unfortunately though that is where the upgraded begin and end! The Cubot still only sports 1GB RAM, an 8 mega-pixel rear camera and the screen is the same 5.7-inch 1280 x 720 unit as found on both the Zopo and THL.

The Cubot is currently on sale at a number of online resellers for around $260, however if you were to hang on for a little longer we wouldn’t be too surprised if both Zopo and THL offered updated versions of their phablets for a similar price.

Your info doesn’t seem to be accurate.
Compare with info straight from cubot.net: http://www.cubot.net/Mobilephone.aspx?id=50

Why write about what you have no idea? Head over to the official website of the smartphone. It have 5.8-inch screen. And the rest of the parameters is also not to be reliable. And the more headline too! Actually not on sale!

Also disappointing is that the MTK6589 is supposed to support HSPA+ and dual active SIM yet the specs of all of the phones with this SoC so far only mention HSPA (7Mbps download, 5.76 Up) and dual standby.

Arnold, this is the same phone as the Cubot (Indian version.) This actually sold out yesterday, so people actually have them unlike the chinese MTK6589 phones…

I was considering of buying this phone, because of
    + MTK6589
    + large battery
+ 720p screen –> which means it will be fast, unlike 1080p

but such huge screen should be protected by Gorilla Glass or similar.. and it is not.

Are there any MT6589 1080p screens that are slow? If so any links? the older MT6577 dualcore may be too slow to handle 1080p screens, but the newer quadcores should be fine. Maybe 1 GB RAM needs to be bumped to 2GB also.

I have no specific links to slow MT6589 phones, as they are just about to be tested… however, the video made by Jiayu G3, having 720p screen and 6577 chipset, was having a rather slow framerate.
I would believe that it is not caused by the poor camera, but rather a heavy load on the chip to both write a 720p movie on the card and also display it in parallel.

If the G3 was not able to shoot a proper 30fps movie in 720p, having a 720p display, i think the 6589 / 1080p phones would have similar issues with HD movies, given they need to display it in fullHD parallel to saving the file.
In other words, i would prefer to have ‘only’ a 720p display, in order to avoid any unnecessary load on the chipset.

If you look at this video, you will see that the internal memory its actually 1GB not 8GB as their advertise!

I have been wondering why most phones in this 6589 processor end up showing ROm to be be 1Gb whilst the advertising shows them to be 8GB. Any idea why this is happening ? Its the same with THL W8 o.O

    August 9, 2013

I have bought this phone but I am not able connect to vodafone or airtel netwrok by using postpaid sim card in India. Phone is detecting simcard showing service provider name correctly though. When I try to connect to network operator automatically or manually in Mobile network->Network operator menu I am am receiving error ” Cannot connect to the network now. please try later”. However it is connecting to bsnl or reliance network (I tried prepaid). I already changed my simcard from service provider twice and tried several option/setting but it is not working at all. Can any one help me?
