JiaYu G4 appears next to Meizu MX2!

JiaYu look to have been seeking inspiration for their upcoming JiaYu G4 from the excellent Meizu MX2!

Say what you will about Meizu, but there is no denying that fact the Zhuhai based phone makers know how to make a stunning looking phone and add innovative features! We’re not the only one’s either as JiaYu also seem have taken notice too.

Looking at the two phone side to side, it is easy to see that JiaYu have been taking note of Meizu’s boutique styling and have adapted it to their own low-cost MT6589 device. Both phones offer simplistic styling and both boast rather narrow screen bezels too!

jiayu g4 and meizu mx2

Seeing the G4 next to the MX2 also gives us a good idea of just how large the 4.7-inch JiaYu is going to be, let’s just hope that JiaYu haven’t been bogged down in outward appearance and neglected the software running the phone, something which many Android fans have criticised Meizu of in the past!

How Jia Yu dare to compare with Meizu !

I don’t exactly see what’s wrong with that. If I can compare Umi to Samsung, then I’m pretty sure anyone can compare JiaYu to Meizu, right?

Frankly the particular Jia Yu seems (and as far as specs go *is*) more of a high end phone than this Meizu.

If anything that’s the first 4.7incher that I know that is so compact (barely bigger than Meizu’s 4.4 phone which on in itself is a compact phone for its screen size…). I mean just now HTC (btw a semi-chinese company on in itself) announced her 4.7 incher (her flagship btw) and it’s gargaduan in comparison.

What Jia Yu does with this phone is a big deal and I’m hoping that it will be out sooner rather than later…

Is like comparing KIA and BMW. You cannot compare. Meizu is 10000 better quality.

Let’s talk about stainless steel body of the Meizu Mx2 for example, 16:10 screen resolution 1280 x 800 (343 ppi pixel density), 2.2 mm bezel and camera of the Meizu Mx2 sensor with 5 high quality optical lenses, back illuminated sensor and powerful led flash…shall I go on ?

Have you tried the M9 ? It was a horrible one

      • Jordi
        February 20, 2013

Meizu M9 was one of the first models….in the process Meizu has learned a lot. The result was a much enhanced phone Meizu Mx and now this amazing Mx2 which quality simply is years ahead Jia Yu. I say you cannot compare cause Jia Yu is a very young brand.

Well I must say that the Meizu is one super phone. I have one now for a couple of day’s and it’s superb! Installed another launcher and now he’s perfect πŸ˜‰ If the Jia Yu is just as good as a Meizu than it’s a great phone πŸ˜€

Well, how can u dare compare a phone with 1800mA battery with one with 3000mA? Who gonna buy 1800mA at double price?

    • Jordi
      February 20, 2013

Let me put in doubt if finally the 3000 mAh battery of the Jia Yu will have that real capacity.

      • Stef
        February 21, 2013

From what I’ve read the jiayu g3’s battery is exceptionally good, which does not necessarily mean that it is really 2750 per se, but it certainly suggests that is indeed of high capacity. If g4’s is 2500 mah instead of 3000 mah i’m sure there won’t be many to complain and it will still be clearly better than meizu’s.

The latest meizu phone is of high quality, I agree, but its specs leave quite a lot to be desired and since phones is/are something that one upgrades often, maybe having better specs (smoother experience, better battery) is more important than how plasticky it feels in hand. After all, to many a smartphone is a tool firstly, no?

JiaYu will sell better his G4 than many other smartphones for only one reason: they are jus few brands which are making a smartphone under 5 inches and almost the only with the 4.7″ size. Most people are not prepared to keep in their hands a 5 inches smartphone so they will say the next step for them is max. up to 4.7″.
The all other 100 companies will create 5″ phones and sell each a small part, but to the people which can accept the 5″ big size.
Even gizchina is promoting a lot the 5″ smartphones, this year will be not a great success for the both reason I already wrote: too many 5″ models and not so much people prepared for this big size.
I read a lot on forums and people still ask for 4.3″ or 4.5″, but no more. But if JiaYu will offer a good price for the 4.7″ most of them will jump in the G4 target. Also you can see the 4.7″ is wider so for web browsing is better than the narrower 5″. Not many people can see this drawback for the 5″ displays.
I can even expect lower prices for 5″ because too many products with this size. Will be a real battle for the price because they will not sell as expected because too many, even in this year the chinese smartphones will be sold better than ever.
    Ha-ha! Because I want a 4.7″ or a 5″ with a great specs and low price.
    Ha-ha again!

+1 on your comment. 5″ is really too large for a phone.

Even if the 5″ phone has the same size as the 4.7″ one?

the reality of size is different for anyone + the resulotion is determing how you see things
    the 4,7 and 5 doesnt make sense i m going for 5.7

@Andi : You should better stop cropping pictures in order to mask sources watermarks… That’s not the good way to share things… πŸ˜‰

Honestly, I don’t care about what you do on your blog, you’re the Boss here but. I’m reading and like your blog because you’re doing great job when it comes to “find things” (probably as good as I’am) but you know what I’m talking about. BTW, sourcing is also (from my point of view) a good way to preserve credibility.

Again Andi, I don’t really care about the way you do your job, simply take my comment like a friendly colleague advice πŸ˜‰ Cheers

    Hi Guys,

I am quiet new to non-mainstream chinese phone producers, I need a small advice.

I am interessted in the Yiayu G3 but I just wonder if now is a good time to buy the phone or to wait a bit (lets say 1 month) with the order due to the announcement of the G4.

Do you expect a big price drop in the price for the G3?
Does anybody know how it looked like with the G2 after Yiayu announced and started shipping the G3?
Whats the best place to buy this phone? I am located in Central Europe an I was considering DHGate and AliExpress where the price for a G3 is around 180$ (incl shipping).

I would appreaciate your advice πŸ™‚
    Cheers

    • February 22, 2013

If you are happy to wait (longer than a month) then get a G4. There is going to be huge demand for that phone, and you might be waiting some time to get one. If you need the phone now get the G3, or if you’re happy to spend more take a look at Zopo’s MT6589 phones.

Thank you for the fast reply Andi!
Do you expect a big price drop for the G3 after the G4 will be available?

Honestly 250$ is a bit too expensive for a Jiayu G4 for me. In comparison I could get for 260$ a Motorola Razr i (of course much lower specs compared tro a G4, but I can expect some solid quality).

Meizu MX2 is way too expensive compared to the Jiayu G4 !
You can basically get the G4 for $150 compared to $450 for MX2 !

Oh nooo! I was almos ready to spend $450 on MX2. I was thinking it is a car. Just the old model of the famous MX3.
