Alcatel are making a real comeback, and it appears to be thanks to them teaming up with Chinese phone maker TCL. The latest TCL made Alcatel branded model is the One Touch Snap which comes with or without LTE!

Alcatel started MWC on a high with the launch of their new HD equipped Idol X, not they are going out on a high with the newly announced Alcatel One Touch Snap and One Touch Snap LTE.

Although the phones come under the same name there are a number of key major differences between the models other than LTE support. The regular Snap uses a quad-core MTK MT6589 processor with 1GB RAM, with a 4.5-inch QHD display and Android 4.2. The LTE version get’s a larger 4.65-inch FWVGA display, dual-core 1.4Ghz Snapdragon CPU and Android 4.1.

Both phones have Dragontail displays to ward off knocks and scratches and 8 mega-pixel rear cameras.

No details on pricing just yet, but expect both phones to be available in Europe soon, while Chinese phone fans will have to wait for the TCL branded models to launch.

    I do not understand why regular version have quad core CPU and Android 4.2 while LTE version have larger display, dual core and Android 4.1? Yes, LTE version have Snapdragon CPU, but a dont believe this CPU is faster then MTK6589…Or i am wrong?

      @The Graduate: it might just be a question of balancing the battery usage, assuming they’d be using the same. With the (slightly) bigger screen and the LTE module, the LTE version would be far more taxing on the battery, justifying the drop in resolution and in processor. Or it might be they found the Snapdragon to provide better support for LTE (MT6589 supposedly supports it, but they may not be focusing on it)…

      Either way, the LTE-less version is sounding very appealing to those of us who don’t wish a giant phone in our pockets. So far, it’s the best offer I’ve read about that’s sure to be available in Europe :)

        @skryptus and gizchina:
        Personally, really would like a under 5″ quad phone, closer to 4″.
        When said, available in Europe, meaning where? Any idea when? cost?
        I have been waiting for the G2S for 3 weeks and is still not available from the official webstore!
        Gizchina – any chance of a under 5″quad phone article?

      I can understand the CPU difference. The MTK6589 comes as a package including the radio which does not support LTE; hence they would have to choose another chip. The MTK is small, low heat, low power, and cheap; so the LTE chip must also have similar characteristics. I imagine the quad Snapdragons were too expensive (especially when combined with the radio cost.)

      The screen difference is abit weird, maybe they couldn’t fit the Snapdragon was too big for the smaller case?

    So they’re giving two practically different devices the same name? Great idea!
