Quad-core Small Cosmic will go on sale next month

If the rumours are true, then Xiaomi will be launching an MTK based phone next month, but if you want something with Mi2 styling for less you might want to take a close look at the quad-core Small Cosmic.

The Small Cosmic is one of the very few quad-core MT6589 phones which will ship with a smaller 4.5-inch display, which makes the phone very attractive to those of us who aren’t quite sold on the idea of a 5-inch phone.

Gizchina News of the week

Although this phone has a smaller 720HD display, it’s still going to be quite the performer due to the 4-core CPU and 1GB RAM. Other highlights include an 8 mega-pixel rear and 2 mega-pixel front camera both of which can be boosted with 12MP and 5MP though software tweaks, SD card slot for up to 64GB cards and 1800 mAh battery.

Overall dimensions of the phone are confirmed to be 135 x 68 x 9mm. The Small Cosmic will go on sale early next month at the low price of just 799 Yuan ($128)

If this is true the Jiayu G4 just got a serious rival, IMO.

Give the resolution of the screen it should be enough, the Jiayu G3 has the same screen and 1GB of RAM seems good enough.
I think 2GB of RAM is mostly marketing stuff, it’s doubtful you will need that much.

I read yesterday that natively that CPU doesn’t support 2GB of RAM.

Hope to read more specs on this phone. I am looking into smaller screen device. 5″ is to big for my everyday needs. 4.5 720p sounds just right and resolution is not wasted. It is 350ppi and up to 0,8ft you wont see any difference. That is 25cm

It does support 2GB of RAM natively. I don’t know where did you read that info. The only two limitations we will see in some months from this CPU are about the GPU, which is now middle range but will be low range sometime in this year, and the CPU itself, which is Cortex A7 and not A15.

Anyways, it is expected to be replaced with some other Mediatek CPU next year (whose cores will be A15 for sure), so I wouldn’t worry that much.

Specs are super considering the price, of course, resellers, will mark it up, but I hope it won’t go over 175$ with transportation included.
