Breaking news! UMi are planning to launch a faster, more powerful version of the quad-core UMi X2 named the UMi X2 Turbo complete with 1.5Ghz quad-core MT6589T processor!
Umi are reporting on their forum that a new quad-core MT6589T (Turbo) version of the UMi X2 will be launched. The new version of the phone will receive a more powerful 1.5Ghz MT6589T processor which apparently boosts performance by between 35-50%!
The first batch of UMi X2 Turbo phones will be launched with 1GB RAM, 16GB ROM, 13 mega-pixel rear camera with F2.0 aperture, curved tempered glass and 5-inch full 1080p HD display at a lower 1199 Yuan price point ($195).

A 2GB RAM, 32GB ROM version will also be released in the near future, however UMi are reporting that there are shortages in supply for 2GB RAM units which will delay the launch date.
The UMi X2 Turbo will be available from 15th May, with an estimated 30,000 32GB versions available and 20,000 16GB ROM models up for grabs! There are currently no details regarding the international launch of the UMi X2 Turbo!

Is / How Curved Tempered Glass is different than Gorilla Glass 2? Have consumers being given wrong information. UMI has earned its reputation b4 product launch but because of their consisterncy in giving false promises will spoil their image in the Global Market.

one false promise which I know of is initial promise of umi x2 to be released by 14th April
now, at least it looks like, umi is going to deliver x2. let’s wait and watch.
Tempered glass has come a long way in later times, and /CAN/ have properties comparable to gorilla glass / dragontrail and the likes. Tempered glass is just that – glass that has been heated high and cooled over long time. It is tough, and if it breaks, it goes into lots of tiny, less sharp peieces (like the rear and side windows on a car). Gorilla glass / dragontrail glass is an alkali-aluminosilicate sheat. Andi why u still writing Umi X2 aperture size F/2.0 ? I told u here many times that this F/2.0 is another false promise of Umi. Fact are: Umi X2 Youth version (1GB Ram, 16GB Rom) has F/2.4 aperture, and 2GB Ram 32GB Rom version have F/2.2 only! Doesn’t it seem like clocked version of the same chipset … wondering if you tried to get the prices right or some issue with pricing. How does an overclocked version be so significantly less costlier than its counter part ? … and Why does UMI stand down the original design and specs of 6589 … i smell something fishy.
The $195 price is for the 1GB RAM, the 2GB RAM model is still around $242. These are Chinese prices.

Strange anyone would bring up the pricing for the international model when the post mentions “There are currently no details regarding the international launch of the UMi X2 Turbo!”. $195 is for the 1GB version, $242 is the 2GB version for China.

Hi Andi, thanks for all the great work. everyone should cut him some slack he is just presenting the information he gets, some of it may be false but its impossible to tell until the product is released.
I really really wish someone with an X2 can run mobile uncle tools and confirm which network bands it supports. 900 or 850 makes a big difference in my country as the primary network provider only has 3g (no 2g at all to fall back on) and it runs on 850 with 2100 used for infill.
So if it is 900/2100 its no good to me, but 850/2100 I would snap this up in a second!
I am 100% certain all the different umi variants (the turbo, the 1gb ram, the 2gb ram models) will all be the same frequency so we just need one unit to get the facts straight for once and all.

This is screen is from guy who alredy have this phone. (Youth version, 1GB Ram, 16GB Rom). Youth version released 2 weeks ago, so we dont need to speculate about real X2 specs anymore.

I think that its possible but not with standard (original) software. For example UMI X1 support WCDMA 850 and 900 (but I heard that it was with some not original software probably).
