Gizchina News of the week

Still if you do have your eyes set on this budget phone with MIUI V5 then your next chance will be on August 27th when Xiaomi will release 50,000 Hongmi phones at 12:00 noon.

The Hongmi is the most affordable Xiaomi to date whatā€™s more the 799 Yuan phone is also one of the largest Xiaomi phones available, the first to use a Meidatek chip, get dual-sim support and have an SD card slot! Top all this off with a Samsung 8 mega-pixel rear camera and the very user friendly and customisable MIUI V5 and itā€™s easy to see why the new Xiaomi is selling so well!

Couple of weeks ago I read here that Xiaomi Red Rice does not support WCDMA.
At aliexpress some sellers specify WCDMA. Some don’t!
    How come?!

Seems there will be two Red Rice versions. The one being currently sold is the “chinese” version, with TD-SCDMA 3G, that only works with specific chinese carriers.

An “international” version, with either WCDMA or HSDPA 3G (no info on this) has been announced, but there’s no release date or other info currently available.

There is a chinese version of ebay, there was a topic on gizchina forum about it. It is called Aliexpress.com. I have seen a few offers there. Like in ebay, be sure to buy from people with a lot of positive comments

PS. I didn’t yet buy from this site. Don’t blame me if this site causes you problems.

Xiaomi announced a WCDMA version, which people in the UK will need, but who knows when that will be available, as they must be concentrating on the Mi3 and MiPad.

Out of interest how big is the Xiaomi factory in Beijing ?

They use Foxconn for the Mi2S and I think the Mi2A. Another company makes the Red Rice
