Aviation Police in China were called out to a flight landing in Guiyang after a passengerās fake iPhone interfered with the landing and guidance systems on her flight.
Anyone who has ever been on a domestic flight in China will know that most passengers donāt really take the warning and safety announcements all that seriously. Passengers will often attempt to walk in the cabin while landing or take off, and as soon as the wheels hit the tarmac phones are on and calls are being made even after repeated warnings not to. Usually the cabin crew tut and shake their heads but on a recent flight from Guangzhou to Guiyang the issue became serious enough for Police to be called out.

The captain of the flight warned passengers to turn off mobile phones after noticing his instruments werenāt reading as accurately as they should. The culprit was soon found when she answered her phone mid-flight and refused to turn it off. The crew finally wrestled the phone away to discover it to be a fake iPhone with a faulty screen making it impossible to turn off!
Thankfully the aircraft landed safely, but Police were called and the passenger might face serious charges.

i didn’t knew that phones were really a problem for plane systems! anyone who’s been in china or know chinese know that they do what the fuck they want and have no consideration for ‘rules’ or their surrounding. they will not turn their phone down if they don’t want to.
Suddenly it makes flying in china much more dangerous.

Agree with Bart. This will create a bad image to Goophone. Anyway fake or copy phones are really risky and can create accidents.
Source is in chinese, so I can’t be sure, but all seems too weird to me. Just like maaany other China-related news. Cellphones are in a wave range completely different than the one the flight instruments use. In fact, all the in-flight cellphone’s regulations were always considered as unnecesary overprotection (FUD). And those regulations are about to change in many companies in many countries soon. Sooo… I don’t think the phone had nothing to do with the innacurate instruments readings.
The main thing is they are finally punishing people for not obeying the safety rules.
It is still quite a noteworthypiece of news, as they did publicly blame the phone (wether it was the actual cause or not).
I know quite alot of airlines that offer both wifi and relayed cell service on 900/850/2100MHz. Most of them only do so after reaching “march height”, but still – if ther was ANY chance the signals would interfere – there would be NO way they would offer this completely volentary service.

Fake phones are unstable and unreliable. Lot of possibilities that could affect the plane’s navigation system. Might be the phone is transmitting frequencies that interferes the nav system.
Why just some people cannot abide a simple flight rule that all electronic things must be turn off before take off and prior landing or until further notice???
