Mystery new JiaYu is a low-cost 4.3-inch phone

Lots of great news from JiaYu today including the launch plans for the JiaYu S1, JiaYu G5 and this entry-level mystery machine.

Gizchina News of the week

The mystery phone looks to be a replacement for the popular JiaYu G2. It features a 4.3-inch 720p display, quad-core MTK processor, 1GB RAM, 2200mAh battery, dual SIM, and enhanced audio. The photo above shows the new phone next to the current G2 (the G2 on the right). From the image we can see that JiaYu have given the new handset smaller bezels and a more modern design, plus have done away with the physical home button.

Pricing and a launch date haven’t been set but from the specs we can guess a price of around 699 Yuan ($114) or less for customers here in China.

To make this into an ideal phone for mini phone users- is a really good camera.with at least a f/2.5 aperture.

Too bad the phone won’t work with 3g outside China, the official spec is TD-scdma + GSM.

      Darn!

Really? That’s really bad. JiaYu should know better than to launch TD-SCDMA phones when they have a huge fanbase clamoring for smaller displays. But are you sure it’s the official specs?

It seems the most interesting cheap smartphones in China are on TD-SCDMA.
Is it because this technology is cheaper to implement than WCDMA ?

Good to know that manufacturers are not ignoring phones of this size.

If they produce a WCDMA version of this phone at a similar price (and with a decent IPS screen), it would almost be worth buying one as a backup phone!

This would be good enough as a main phone for many people, especially looking at what is available for £100, from the likes of Carphone Warehouse Phones $U and the others in the UK, it would be at least £150 sim free in Uk if craphone Warehouse got hold of them.

I looked at SIM only phones phones from CarphoneWarehouse, Phones4U and others in the UK. Then bought a Lenovo A820 from etotalk in China.
4.7″ 1GB/4GB with 1.2GHZ quad-core Mediatek 6589, dual SIM, SD Card, etc at a hugely discounted price of only $120 plus DHL shipping.
It has been running smoothly since I got it few weeks ago. Excellent GPS and WIFI reception. Antutu tests gave benchmarks of between 13,400 and 13,600.

As usual, Jiayu is good at spreading rumours. They have a look at Gizchina poll and see there is a high demand for 4.3″ phones. The release some rumours and see if there is enough buzz to actually start developing a phone. Meanwhile they claim a release date is near, after 6 months delay they finally release a phone.

Listen jiayu. 4.3″ narrow bezel phone with 720p, quad core, VANILLA ANDROID 4.3 optimised for best performance with 3000 mah (it’s ok to make the phone a little thicker if that means you can get 50% more battery life). Clean and timeless design. OTG. this is the ultimate mainstream phone!

yes please…9-10mm thick is okay if you put a 2500-3000mah battery in it. stop making useless 6-8mm, 5″ devices with crappy 1800-200mah batteries in them.
