Star launching it’s own $130 Xiaomi Hongmi rival

The Xiaomi Hongmi started an all new price war between phone makers, one which phone maker Start will soon be declaring its own war on!

Gizchina News of the week

Star already have a great following of international customers and are now taking advantage of low component costs to produce a phone to rival the Xiaomi Hongmi! Priced at 799 Yuan in China ($130) the new Star phone will feature a 5-inch 960 x 540 IPS display, 1GB RAM, 1.3Ghz Quad-core processor and 8 mega-pixel camera.

It is not clear what name Star are going with for the new models, but we do know that it will be available in either black or white with red and gold trim (very festive!).

A 5 incher isn’t competition imo. Why are there so few under 5 inch phones available? I’ve been trying to find a replacement for my pregnant girlfriend’s faea f1 which got stolen out of her hands some weeks ago (bravo to the the ‘stigmatized’ kids who did it) but except a white jiayu g4 or the little pricey xiaomi mi2a there’s simply nothing available at the moment.

I have the same problem, they gone bigger and bigger.
There is a market for phones with less than 5 inch but no suppliers, it’s “impossible” to find a 4 core cell, with good camera and an excellent price.

Instead of worrying which phone to buy for your GF, you should worry about getting married with her and give her a status since she is carrying your child now.

Well, You can buy another F1 ( it’s almost perfect, but why didn’t they installed buttons backlight?) or keep searching, however I’m in the same position, I just can’t find non-expensive 4-4,5″ phone with needed stuff (3G 900/2100 MHz, JB, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, gorilla glass, notification led, min 1 GB RAM, microSD, removable, decent battery, camera flash etc).

Phone with such option, cost same as high end phone, which I can buy from local store, with 2 years warranty and without any hassle with customs etc.

So actually Chinese phone factories should offer phones without any warranty, but with better price, as 99% users never send their broken phones to back to service.

I also wish there were more sub 5′ options…But still there are a few decent options, like
Xiaocai X9(pretty good price on Mistertao and the phone actually looks good),
Thl W100(people say it fells a bit cheap, but still an option),
Gionee GN878(don’t know much except there is unofficial muiu available for this phone),
Jiayu G4 and G3T/G3+(both pretty good),
      Lenovo A820(also don’t know much)
      Amoi A850.

Which Star company is making this?

There are at least two companies making phones under the Star brand.

Xiaocai X9 looks pretty fine, but again, no buttons background light and some sites says, that 3G supports 850/2100 MHz, Gionee GN878 is too expensive:(.
