Phone maker Carpad have branched off in to the smartwatch and wearables market with this true smart Android watch costing just $65.

When startup Omate first announced they planned to release the Truesmart Android watch the whole tech world was watching them so, it seems, were rival Chinese manufacturer eager to bolster their portfolio!

The Carpad smartwatch looks more like a traditional wrist watch with chrome display surround and black strap. Just as the Omate Truesmart is it’s own device, i.e. will fully function without a smartphone, the Carpad smartwatch too packs all the usual phone features behind a compact 1.54-inch touch screen.

Gizchina News of the week

At the heart of the smartwatch is a dual-core Mediatek MT6577 SoC, bringing WIFI, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS and even dual sim support to the table. There is also a 500mAh battery 4GB of internal memory all topped off in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Carpad watch will be available in China this month, the Omate Truesmart still hasn’t arrived with those who originally backed the project, UPDATE: Many OMATE Truesmart backers are still waiting for their watches to arrive, myself included!

Saying that the TrueSmart hasn’t arrived with it’s backers yet isn’t completely truthful, all 512mb ram units have shipped as have most 1gb US models. This coming from a backer of two 1gb EU models with delivery for october (!) that still haven’t even been made yet…

Either way, comparing this to the TS isn’t really fair since it has way superior specs and build.

    Fact check fail.

*Over 2000 DL’s of the latest TrueSmart EnSec patch. Yep, nobody has received their TS.
*Pages if tech support for the Patch. Yep, nobody has received their TS.
*Multiple photos, G+ posts, FB comments, KS comments from folks that have their TS. Yep, nobody has received their TS.
*An entire section on xda with tons of posts from folks with a TS in hand.Yep nobody has received their TS.

Ah, from the huge number of unhappy Facebook comments and the fact I haven’t recevied mine yet (despite being in China) I figured they all hadn’t shipped yet. Will update this sorry.

If you are a 1/8 2100 backer/preorder, they just approved the new PCB design so progress is being made. They also are getting about 100 pre-order requests a day (total is over 15K last time I heard from them) with all of one person, labeling and shipping,

Are you sure that is 3G? I don’t see any WCDMA/TD-SCDMA specs in their website, only GSM frequencies.

    • March 10, 2014

The processor is a 3G enabled one, I doubt they will have removed that from the device
