Oppo Find 5 won’t get Android 4.4 based ColorOS

If you are an Oppo Find 5 owner and have been waiting to hear news of an Android 4.4 based ColorOS heading to your phone, then here it is, but it isn’t good.

Oppo have posted on their Weibo that they won’t be releasing an Android 4.4 Kitkat ColorOS update for the Find 5. This is going to come as quite a blow to many owners of the previous flagship Oppo phone. In the post, (translated here), Oppo say the reason for the lack of update isn’t down to them, but rather Qualcomm.

Gizchina News of the week

The reason they give is that Qualcomm, who provided the Snapdragon processor for the Find 5, have not released the relevent source, hardware drivers, or binaries to allow Oppo’s engineers to create a Kitkat based ColorOS for the phone. So how have developers managed to get Kitkat on the Find 5? Well they say this is because devs have been using the 4.2 framework to get things to work, but this won’t work suffciently for ColorOS.

Man the whole s4 pro/snapdragon 600 generation of phones really did get shafted by the Chinese manufacturers, very bad form to be honest, the find 5/mi2/mi2s are all more than capable of running 4.4 very well.

I heard that they are or at least were porting MIUIv6 based on 4.4 to Mi2/Mi2s but it had some bugs.

Well, Meizu updated the mx2 to Kitkat and latest Flyme. So you know which manufacturer to choose if you are thinking long term.
