Xiaomi San Francisco press conference won’t be a product launch

Hugo Barra has posted that Xiaomi will be holding a press conference in San Francisco on February 12th, but representatives say it won’t be a product launch.

Xiaomi and Hugo Barra have both said on numerous occasions that the Chinese phone maker is not yet ready to launch products in the U.S, but that isn’t to say that the company aren’t interested in getting the ball rolling.

Later this month, February 12th, Hugo Barra and the Xiaomi team will be heading to San Francisco at a press conference, but what the conference will be about we don’t yet know other than it will be a chance for U.S media and fans to learn more about Xiaomi and their products.

We can also confirm that Xiaomi will not be launching in the U.S. or entering the U.S. market this time, but this is an opportunity to get to know the company and leadership a bit more.

Chances are Xiaomi will be using the press conference to introduce their brand and ideas to U.S customers, who many of which see the company as simply another Chinese brand borrowing from Apple. Xiaomi are likely to show off some of their current unique designs and, to build further interest for the brand stateside for a launch at a later date.

Picking San Francisco out of any other US city is a smart move, considering the majority of the population there is Asian.
