Yu Yureka getting Android Lollipop/Cyanogen OS 12 via OTA

One of the best US$150 phones that we’ve had the pleasure of testing has been the Yureka from Micromax subsidiary Yu.

Akin to the OnePlus One, the Yureka was launched with Cyanogen OS out of the box, running Android v4.4 KitKat. Just a couple of days after the OnePlus One received the critical Cyanogen OS 12S update, it is Yureka’s turn to get some Lollipop goodness.

The announcement was made by Micromax boss Rahul Sharma on the Yu forums. The update is being rolled out to Yureka handsets in phases as usual, so there might be a while to go before every device gets the OTA notification. We checked for updates on our unit of the Yureka, and unfortunately there was nothing on there yet. Guess we’ll have to wait a couple of days before getting the update!

Here’s what Sharma said on the forums:

Hey Guys

Just 2 days back we submitted the certification for Lollipop and the good news is that it’s signed and sealed. The roll out begins NOW.

Gizchina News of the week

Yes, the wait is over and after a long toil for perfection, the team will roll it out in phases over the next 3 days. With a whole new world of features that include highly customized extra theming options, CyanogenMail, Exchange support, multiple account integration and so much more beyond the existing goodness of Android Lollipop, L is sweeter than you thought. Delighted to say that, every element of visual, motion and interaction design is flawless, for you guys deserve nothing less.

Loving the L experience (sharing some screenshots). Go ahead, it’s time for Cyanogen OS 12, look forward to hearing from you!”

The said screenshots are attached and for you to see. Do check out our review of the Yu Yureka!

No. 1 the deal has not been finalized yet.
Dude, just because Cyanogen is being sold out to Microsoft doesn’t mean that it’s standard will fall in any manner.
In any case the OS will not change.
Once you have Cyanogen, you are rid of the useless UI’s that come with other phones, you have total android control!
You would be missing out on a great opportunity if you let this slip by you.

I would recommend that you buy the Yureka
no.1 It’s a budget phone which gives you all the latest specs.
no.2 The sheer class of the new Yureka will outshine the other phones in that segment
you said you travel alot, Yureka is a dual sim phone, you can change your sim cards with ease depending upon which country you visit
I would definitely use the Yureka
I have one and it’s awesome.

for a price that low and specs that good, this is the best buy in the market available at the moment.
what you get on paying a meager 9K is a 64 bit motherboard with 2GB RAM and 12.5GB ROM, plenty of memory for your various apps and what not.

you get a 615 Snapdragon processor, pretty brilliant giving you an approximate 1.5GHz clock speed.
for that amount, it’s probably one of the most well priced cell phones in the market at the moment.

you also get Cyanogen OS 11
