MediaTek has really taken the mobile world by storm. They’re processors have been in numerous phones and devices ranging from cheap budget phones like the ECOO Aurora E04 and JiaYu S3 to top of the range flagships like the just released HTC One M9+. Now the company is hoping to bite at Intel’s success its latest duo of tablet processors – the MediaTek MT8163 and MT8735 both of which feature four cores and 64-bit architecture.
Up first we have a low-cost processor named the MT8163. This chip is designed for budget tablets and supports WIFI connection only. Mediatek are sticking to A53 cores, pumping out enough juise for 1080p. Lollipop 5.1 is the prefered OS, and the SoC comes with H.624 video, dual WIFI, BT 4.0. and GPS.

Further up the field is the slighly upgraded MT8735 chipset with intergrated LTE model for FDD-LTE, TDD-LTE, WCDMA, CMDA2000, full-mode 4G tablet TDS, and GSM networks. The rest of the hardware remains largely unchanged to the budget MT8163.
Expect more Chinese, and international tablet makers to offer Mediatek processors in their low and mid range tablets once these new processors launch.

There is no real bump in performance here just 64 bit and hevc playback. When the a72 chips come along then we will see something powerful. So sit tight!

Been reading about these chips for a few weeks now, however there is no mention anywhere of the GPU inside either of them. At a guess I would assume mali T-720/760 in either single or dual core flavours.
I’m going to take a crack at this and guess MediaTek switching from a dual core T-760 to a quad core T-720 is about saving die space because of a larger baseband processor required for the world band LTE radio that also supports CDMA.
I think more likely dual core t720 as MT don’t like putting decent a GPU on their chips. I did read an interesting article regarding the benchmark results, apparently they got very very poor graphics performance and were running a radeon core, personally I think this is BS because unless they’ve been working with AMD behind the scenes for a while it’s too early to have one of their GPU’s on board this soon.

The MT8163 seems to be clocked at 1.3GHz only it really a budget orientated 5$ chip.

AMD got out of mobile GPU years ago sold it to Qualcom and that is what Adreno is based on.

The sale actually happened after AMD acquired them. ATI developed the Imageon mobile chip in 2002, AMD purchased them in 2006 and renamed the chip AMD Imageon. They sold it until 2008 when they sold the mobile GPU business to Qualcomm. As part of the deal AMD would keep the Imageon name only.
A name that is completely worthless now.
