Elephone P7000 customers told they may not get IMX214 main camera

Elephone have posted on their reservation page for the P7000 that some phones will not ship with the Sony IMX214 announced in official specifications. Keep reading for more info.

The Elephone P7000 has been on a special pre-sale since Saturday. During the special event customers have the change to receive an ‘Ele code’ so that they can buy the new device at a bargain $159.99 in May.

At such a low price, and with such high specifications (including MT6752 processor, 3GB RAM, 5.5 FHD display, Fingerprint scanner etc) the reservations are going strong with lot’s of hopeful customers.

Gizchina News of the week

But customers should be aware of one change in the specification for this early batch of phones. On the reservation page Elephone have posted a note that this first batch of P7000 will not ship with a Sony IMX214 main sensor but instead the Sony IMX135.

Elephone say that stock of the IMX214 could not be replenished in time for the launch (understandable with so many other companies now offering this camera) so have had to make a switch for the IMX135 in the meantime.

Some Elephone P7000 hopefuls have been disappointed by the news, while others have praised Elephone for their honesty. In our opinion the P7000 with IMX135 is still a great deal at $159.99, and its good to see Elephone ensure customers know exactly what they are buying.

What do you think of the news?

    1 word: Lame!

Im ok with them to do it BUT they have to write in every pachage which camera is installed. You have to know what you pay for and what the reseller will give you finally. Did I say lame?

With elephone 6K and 7K I though elephone will rise from the bottom to mediocre brands, but they try so hard not to do it.

Having run several business I have to disagree with you. There is only so much you can control personally, and the supply chain often isn’t one of them. This isn’t the first time we have seen problems with Sony supplying the 214 sensor to manufacturers. The sensor is in such high demand Sony can’t seem to keep up. The correct way to run a business is to be open and honest with your customers which is what Elephone is doing. They could have very easily not told anyone and continued on with their flash sale which is selling in the tens of thousands.

        Well, you just said that.
It wasn’t the first time Sony giving problems supplying sensors so they could have handled it differently, but this is not the point, I don’t know the whole story to judge. To be honest with costumers is the first step, then comes an apology, then you offer options. You can’t just say we had this problem and we are going to do this way, deal with it.
I agree that they could have said nothing and keep selling through the flash sale, but for how long? And then what? Take the money and run?
I’ll agree with you when an official apology comes within alternatives.

Most of these companies don’t admit stuff like this until they are called out by the community, like Elephone, Kingzone and Ulefone all have been recently.

That’s fine as long as they tell you which sensor is in the handset, also they should sell it slightly cheaper and then those who are happy to have the older sensor can purchase the slightly cheaper phone, win win as I see it.

At least they’re honest about the specs (let’s hope the same is to be said about the other characteristics). Kingzone used a Omnivision 8mp sensor and advertised it as a Sony IMX214 (and many other lies/deceptions)… ?

Maybe this was the plan from the beginning and that’s why the promotion price is so low.

If I succed selling the Kingzone Z1, the p7000 Is on the short list.

They are already offering the phone at a deep discount from their normal retail price. $160 for a 64 bit phone with 3GB RAM and a Sony IMX 135 is still a great deal. The 135 is the same camera used on the THL 2015 which sells for over $200 and the Galaxy A5 which sells for over $300 in some markets.

The same Coolpad F1 that had a very good camera?

The reason the F1 is $120 and those are more money is they have newer 64 bit SoC’s, the F1 has an older 6595. But nice try.

            • Riccardo Benzoni
              April 28, 2015

f1 had mt6592 which was mediatek’s top SoC when it was released more than one year ago, the price has always been the same. Nice try!

              April 28, 2015

I really don’t know what you are arguing at this point. Where did I say the price has ever changed? What I did say was the MTK6595 doesn’t cost as much as the newer 64 bit chips. Try to follow along. The older MTK chips such as the 6592 were specifically designed and marketed for cheaper phones. When that chip was released the only way for MTK to compete with Qualcomm in terms of performance so they competed in terms of price. Now they are beating them in both aspects.

And by the way it wasn’t MTK’s top SoC, the 6595 was at the time.

            • Riccardo Benzoni
              April 28, 2015

you said F1 IS 120€ because of the old SoC, I told you it always had this price even when the phone and mt6592 were freshly released. And no, phones with mt6592 like the Honor 3X with mt6592 were selling at 220-300€ back then, the F1 was the one that really brought the prices down (like mlais did in this generation with m52, even if with a bit less quality this time, but the brand is a lot smaller so they did well enough), Mt6592 is (was) a midrange SoC as mt6752 is now after a year of distance, they covered a bigger gap in performances this year but it still retails as a mid-ranger as marketed from mediatek itself, production prices also fall in this category so virtually nothing has changed on this side, as Mlais showed and as many others are following (elephone included, if they manage to stay serious at least for one time).
And I also don’t understand why are you referring to mt6595 since it is much newer, F1 has mt6592 which was seen for the first time in a phone on november/december 2013, while the first 6595 was Meizu MX4 on september/october 2014, what “at the time” are you referring to?

            • balcobomber25
              April 28, 2015

At this point you are just looking for an argument, good luck with that.

As for the SoC’s – MT6592 was released in November of 2013, MT6595 was officially announced in February 2014. At the time MT6595 was always meant to be the flagship SoC, 6592 was meant for budget-mid range phones.

are you serious? I’m not searching for any argument, to me it seems I’ve only answered each on very point you brought to the table, nothing more. But now what should I add when you compare a release date with an announcement date? I can only quote you then: “Nice try” 😀

            • balcobomber25
              April 29, 2015

If they announced their flagship SoC only two months after releasing the 6592, then the 6592 was never intended to be their flagship SoC as you said earlier.

Honesty my a**, they wanted to lie all the time and they came up this flash sale baloney maybe just maybe some Kazakhstan redneck will be like “oh, at least they are telling the truth”, just sell the damn thing for 160 forever and skip the drama

    • balcobomber25

If they wanted to lie all the time, why did they tell you this news which could cost them sales. Why wouldn’t they continue to lie through the flash sale and come out with this news 6 months from now or not at all? Lying all the time and telling people news like this before the phone is ever released are complete opposites.

Could anyone confirm whether the phone will work 3g/4g with T-mobile in US? I’m lost in the freq specs on their website ;-(

    • balcobomber25
      April 28, 2015

It will work on ATT 3G without a problem as it has both the 850 and 1900 band. On Tmobile it largely depends where you live. Tmobile operates 3G on both the 1700 and 1900 bands, this phone only has the 1900. Tmobile has been upgrading their towers to operate on just 1900 but its not Nationwide yet. It won’t work on any LTE networks in the US.

Damn, I’m lost with this freqs. I live in Virginia Beach/Norfolk, VA. Do you have knowledge of any chineese phone, such as P7000, which will work at least 3G with Tmobile? Obviously 4G is just a still dream to me. Thanks.

You in the Navy by any chance?

Once Tmobile rolls out nationwide 1900 coverage which is expected sometime this year it will be a lot easier, but that 1700 band just isn’t supported in many Chinese phones. ATT is a lot easier with the 850.

Hello dear I have purchased new P3000s through certified Elephone shop and done payment through Paypal. I received a Faulty mobile and lauched my complaint within 24 Hours of receiving the faulty mobile.
For 2 days i did not received reply from Elephone, then i raised a Paypal request. After raising paypal complaint within 30 mins a received a email from Elephone.
They promised me a Replacement mobile as mentioned in thier website and reimbursement of my Postal charges ( It never happened and I received a email from them, that they will not pay ).
After 3 months I received a refurbished faulty mobile with a dent on the body.
I requested Elephone to send me a new P3000s as replacement.
When new mobile not available I asked them Refund the amount.
They never refunded my money and sent me refurbished mobile, which is faulty and not as problems in it.
              Elephone is cheating company.
Please sugget me how to raise complaint against Elephone.

Which reseller are you going through? A certified dealer means very little in this business. It doesn’t mean it is an official shop of that company. When you buy from a reseller, most of them are the ones who handle your warranty and repairs. There really is no way to make a complaint other than through Paypal. Any complaint you make will fall on deaf ears. Your best it is to get your money back from Paypal and learn your lesson, don’t buy Elephones until they can prove reliability.

Honesty my a**, they wanted to lie all the time and they came up this flash sale baloney maybe just maybe some Kazakhstan redneck will be like “oh, at least they are telling the truth”, just sell the damn thing for 160 forever and skip the drama

    • balcobomber25
      April 28, 2015

If they wanted to lie all the time, why did they tell you this news which could cost them sales. Why wouldn’t they continue to lie through the flash sale and come out with this news 6 months from now or not at all? Lying all the time and telling people news like this before the phone is ever released are complete opposites.

I can’t seriously believe that there is people complaining about this, $160 dollars for such phone is a fucking deal, name another phone with the same specs at this price.

Also you’re getting another sony true 13mp sensor, if my memory isn’t bad the same sensor used on the LG G3, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4 and Mi3.

    • kaloyan nikolov
      April 28, 2015

Damn, I’m lost with this freqs. I live in Virginia Beach/Norfolk, VA. Do you have knowledge of any chineese phone, such as P7000, which will work at least 3G with Tmobile? Obviously 4G is just a still dream to me. Thanks.

    • balcobomber25
      April 28, 2015

You in the Navy by any chance?

Once Tmobile rolls out nationwide 1900 coverage which is expected sometime this year it will be a lot easier, but that 1700 band just isn’t supported in many Chinese phones. ATT is a lot easier with the 850.

    • kaloyan nikolov

Navy it is. You are right. I better start looking at ATT offers now.

P7000’s real price is $229.99, even though they advertise it as $159.99 on every Wednesday and limited quantity, but they don’t indicate the specific limits. elephone is cheating on us! Its dealer ELE is selling the phone at $159.99, but the shipping cost is $70! What a blackmail! All the other merchandises in this store are shipping-free. Only time will tell if it will arrive I paid by PayPal so if it does not arrive then I hope that I will get my money back.

The IMX 214 is built on the same exact architecture as the 135, they share most of the same specs. The only major difference between the two is the 214 can record 4k video.

I praise Elephone for their honesty here. They could have very easily said nothing and no one would have ever known. Elephone did it on the first day of their big sale at a time when potential customers can still get a refund. It makes you wonder how many other companies have done something like this and never told us. We all had a phone at some point that didn’t match the performance others claimed.

Hello! Unfortunately the site http://www.willmyphonework.net/ claims that the phone WON’T work in the T-Mobile LTE bands, but I don’t know how accurate this information is. To be 100% sure before buying please note that the supported LTE frequencies by P7000 are as follow: LTE-FDD: Band 1/3/7/20 (800/1800/2100/2600Mhz) I think T-Mobile supports band 20, but mostly they’re using band 4(1700/2100) so make sure you call your mobile carrier to confirm what exactly lte frequency they’re using in your region.
