Oukitel U8, Lollipop, 2GB RAM, LTE and 128GB SD support for $139.99

It’s difficult to be a new phone maker in today’s market, but Chinese brand Oukitel think they have what it takes and will kick off their international launch with the mid-range Oukitel U8.

At $139.99 the Oukitel U8 has fierce competition from the likes of Elephone, UMi and others, but there are some very neat features in the U8 which budget phone buyers will appreciate.

First up, Oukitel say the U8 will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box! This is great news and much more convenient that having to wait for OTA updates that may never appear.

Another interesting features is support for up to 128GB SD cards. With just 16GB internal memory this is excellent news for music and movie fans.

Gizchina News of the week

Android 5.1 of OUKITEL U8

The rest of the hardware is all rather good for the money too. A 64bit quad-core MT6735 chipset offers native LTE, there will be 2GB RAM, a 5.5-inch 2.5D display with 1280 x 720 resolution and the cameras are a 13 mega-pixel rear and 5 mega-pixel front (although we imagine these are interpolated figures).

Those of you interested in the U8 will want to check out the official Oukitel website. The first sales of the Oukitel U8 will begin on 15th May.

Looks like a great phone, it has good specs for a very good price. Will wait for some reviews, hopefully here at gizchina? If this phone has a decent camera (at least similar in quality to the Jiayu S3) then I’ll seriously consider this phone.

This is definitely one of the better looking phones out there. If they can do a high end phone with a similar good price could help shake things up a bit. Nice to see lollipop 5.1 instead of 5.0.1, if a start up can manage it then why can’t the more established brands?

no, just normal talking to show that no one is perfect, something or some people you think are beautiful or cool, but other people may not think so.

yo! anyone , any expert here…
I;ve been follow the U8 for a WHILE now , and i’d REALLY like to get my query answered.

This phone comes with a Dual Tone Flash , which is like one red and one green in color…. how does that affect photography ???

and there’s also the mention of temperature in relation to the camera flash. i’d also like to know about that…

Led lights only emit colour of a particular wavelength according to the materials used to make them. Therefore you get warm white , cool white , or various shades of red blue and green. The temperature is an indication of the colour measured in degrees Kelvin. A 6000K white light will be more “blueish” than a 4000K white which will appear more yellow/orange . Using only a blueish white led will illuminate the scene more brightly on white objects, but will make faces appear pale. A warm led will help to compensate by providing warmer tones for a more natural scene.
          Wellthat’s my theory! y

Apparently Oukitel is a partnership between DOOGEE and OUKI, so many pinches of salt might be in the recipe.

I took the plunge! I haven’t tried an mt673x yet, and not being a power user I thought it will be fun. I really want a phone with 360 fingerprint id to try and I’m not prepared to risk the ulefone touch yet. Somehow this new brand with no track record to speak of has got me! Not many official sites would carry a teardown video of their newest phone before it’s released! RESPECT!
