Acer have brought a couple of powerful handhelds to IFA in the form of the Acer Predator 6 smartphone and Predator 8 tablet.

Both of these Android devices are designed with hardcore gaming in mind. For the mobile phone side of things the Acer Predator 6 is quite the beast with a deca-core Mediatek Helio X20 chipset, 4GB RAM, 21 mega-pixel rear camera and quad front-facing speakers.

Gizchina News of the week

Going up in size, Acer have the 8-inch Acer Predator 8 gaming tablet. Again running Android, and boasting 4 “TacSense” front facing speakers. The Predator 8 has an Intel Atom Z7-Z8700 CPU, 2GB RAM, and option for either 32 or 64GB internal memory and space for an SD card. Surprisingly the tablet measure only 8.7mm!

We’re still waiting on more details of the Acer Predator 6 and will bring them to you later in the week. Keep posted for more news from IFA.

Such a “beast” tablet with 2GB RAM only? And like 1usd=1eur is not enough anymore (25% more expensive for me), now I must also pay additional 17% for the amount difference. Truly a (financial) predator for us Europeans.

They’d be stupid not to have 4G/LTE in all models. Thumbs up to them for getting the camera right. So many tablet makers skimp putting dog arse 1-2MP front cams and maybe 5-8MP back.

It’s main competitor will be the Nvidia Shield Tablet which would have a better CPU and stylus, but not as good cameras. The base Nvidia tablet only has WIFI, not 4G/LTE. Nvidia has put a lot of work into their gaming support, but it’s not well adopted. If only they did a partnership with Steam.

Tablets are far easier to manufacture as you have circuit room. There’s no reason they shouldn’t be more feature rich than mobile phones.

As in streaming to steam? I was thinking Android Tegra games purchased and played via Steam Services. My wrong if they have both.
