Unboxing, hands on and first impressions of the all new LeTV Le1S Android smartphone. Keep reading for the unboxing video and my first impressions.
Over this past year I have test some great phones and one of the best came from LeTV. In my possession I have the LeTV Le 1 (read the review here) and the LeTV Le Max, but it was the Le 1 which really knocked my socks off and rewrote the rule book for affordable smartphones.
A few weeks ago, LeTV announced the all new LeTV Le1S a phone which builds on what’s great about the original Le 1 but adds a new high-end build and updated features to the phone while costing less.
From the front the LeTV Le 1S looks almost identical to the Le 1 with a 5.5-inch display and a design that looks like the phone has no bezels. The rest of the design is much improved though as is build. The Le 1S features a unibody all alloy body, and a rounder profile for a slightly more comfortable feel.
The all new metal body also has a new location for the 13 mega-pixel F2.0 rear camera and comes with the addition of a fingerprint scanner. The sensor on the fingerprint scanner has a mirror finish, so its possible that it will double up as a mirror so you can use the main camera for selfies too.
Under the hood the LeTV Le 1S is pretty similar to the original Le 1 but with a more powerful 2.2Ghz Helio X10 chipset. The rest includes 3GB RAM, 3000mAh battery, 5.5-inch display and LeTV’s EUI ROM based on Android 5.0.2.

LeTV Le1S Hands on
Well there you have it for now, I’ll post more LeTV Le 1S news and tests in the coming days, and also watch out for my full review soon.
Hi Andi, does this come with the ability to lock apps? because the Letv Le1 does not have that function. I want to be able to lock my emails, photos and my messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram and Facebook messenger so that no one else can read my messages if they ask to use my phone for any reason. I have the Le1 which I bought from gizchinashop. If the answer is yes then I will order this one immediately from gizchinashop and use it as my daily driver which at this moment is my Find7…..thanks
Hi, so far I didn’t see this feature, but I’ll take another good look and be sure.
I hope u find something because without these functions it will be big let down for me in terms security features. I really hope it’s there because it’s not on the Le1
why don’t you just install a third party app?
it doesn’t matter if it’s a system app like the one in oppo roms or a downloaded one.
they work exactly the same.
look for “guest mode” on Google Play store.
Thanks Max, I don’t want to download something that will bring a lot junks with it. Which one will u recommend best?
I am so used to the one on colorOS, I just can’t live without it on any phone
i don’t need that feature so i haven’t tried any of those apps.
sorry.
it has to be one that works good for you, even if you have to pay a couple of dollars.
what are you asking is an system apk installed on ColorOs roms, so the other option is that someone start porting this rom for Letv phones (improbable)
or if you extract the apk and install it on letv phones (very risky)
that’s why i suggested you to go for a third party app, which is in my opinion the easiest way.
I have these features on my other phones….Oukitel U8 and Mi4i, I don’t why Letv is not in incorporating these features in their phones.
I use Smart App Lock works great for me
Did you checked the sensors?
Is there a notification LED? If so is it RGB ?
What about SAR?
How is the lcd quality compared to letv x600?
Hello Andi,
Could you check, please, the sensors instaled on this phone? I’ve seen some antutu tests and it seems it lacks a few, like g-sensor, gyro, linear acceleration, rotation vector. This sensors are not mentioned on their product page, too.
Gorgeous looking phone tbh. If I hadn’t ordered the Honor 7 today this one would’ve been on top of my list next to the OnePlus X.
MI4C advanced version or Letv 1S? I am planning to buy the advanced version of the MI4C at 255€ shipping costs included. It is going to be my first smartphone and I was wondering if you could help me to decide which phone to get. I know that the community is quite huge for Xiaomi devices, do you believe that I am going to be in trouble if I go for the Letv 1S? I am french but using the phone in English is not a problem for me. Letv 1S has an amazing build quality and great hardware pretty similar to the advanced version of the MI4C (of course slightly bigger) but at an attractive price. Thanks!
The mi4c is more powerful, it’s camera is great and the community as you know.
But if you don’t need da powa, ok with big screen and like the build quality… Well then go ahead (ok maybe just wait till Andis review is out).
Thank you for your reply! It helps a lot! I really don’t know what to chose, both phones have pros and cons. Letv is brand new as a phone maker even if the company is well known in China. An user pointed the fact that I will be able to install custom ROMs if I go for the MI4C (he also said that MI4C is more powerful). I will think about it then I will decide. Peace!
there’s no wrong choice. both phones are excellent.
Hope I helped!
backlit keys!??
Alumin-I-um 😀 hehe so British!
i love this phone, if it had the rights bands then it would have kicked everybody’s assess.
It does have the one I need in my country. But I’m scared that I might get it without Google Play or if the resellers wipe the original ROM for whatever reason, and send me a NON upgradeable ROM that won’t benefit from updates form LeTV . any help? Any ideas?
i never leave the ROM the phone comes with (for obvious security reasons).
Anytime i buy a new phone from china i download the firmware from the official channel,i flash it and then i install the Gapps.
Damn this phone is amazing, I am about to order the MI4C from Xiaomi and I am really lost. I believe that the community when buying a Xiaomi phone is an asset, what about Letv? It wouldn’t be an issue for me to use the phone in english language. I mean when it comes to resolve problems, are Letv developers serious in helping phone owners? I could get the MI4C with 3gb ram around 250€ with shipping costs but this Letv 1S with its build quality and hardware is unbeatable. Hi Andi, what to you think about the weight of the Letv 1S? Thanks.
The hardware of the LeTv 1S doesn’t beat the Mi4C and Xiaomi is better if you want custom roms etc. Though the main choice for you would be size as Mi4C has a 5″ screen and LeTv a 5.5″ screen. Both are the best choices in their respective sizes I believe, so you’re good to go with eighter of the phones!
Thank you very much for your message, it helps a lot.
Hey andi, what about the camera and the battery??
Camera comparison with OPX and Mi4C in the works
How they compare vs Letv x600?
Am I the only one that likes the design of the x600 more?
included the thicker black bands?
I also prefer x600 design.
And the gray version look awesome.
You are right only but then if one doesn’t care about Fingerprint scanner.
Maybe you are :). This new 1s looks really good imo and I’m not sure how anyone can prefer glossy plastic over aluminium? I do prefer the grey version over this gold one though.
I’m just not a fan of the Chinese stuff on this phone. Would be nice to see CM for this, that would make it almost perfect.
Ironically it’s the plastic that makes the phone gripper and my mother doesn’t mind it(she owns a x600)
I think I prefer the older phone in too
LeTV 1S or Meizu MX5?
They are similar (both even have fast charging).
Only difference: Meizu has AMOLED screen and LeTV has LCD.
personally i would pick this one because it’s much cheaper and it has 32gb rom.
Ok, so Meizu Metal would be at a comparable price
yes, the 1S and the Metal belong to the same league.
Then it’s up to personal taste.
@disqus_0IJZ8Bi7SK: Ok, LeTV 1S costs me 255€ with import VAT, Meizu Metal 16GB also 255€ and 32GB version is 288€.
But Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime is only 195€
For the price/value ratio I would get the Redmi, but I read that the battery runtime is bad.
What do you think?
in my opinion the Letv is just a step higher than the Redmi due to metal finish, better audio quality and fingerprint scanner.
if you don’t mind the plastic of the Redmi then you have a better community support and SD card slot (highly demanded here on Gizchina)
did you say battery?
The Redmi is the only one with a removable battery.
Seriously, all you have to do is buy a spare battery ($10), keep it charged and when your phone is running out of juice all you have to do is these 6 steps:
1:turn the phone off
2:remove the lid
3:remove the battery
4:insert new battery
5: replace the lid
6: turn the phone on
total of 3 minutes of your time.
there’s no quick charge technology or battery saver app that can beat it.
that’s THE REAL SUPER-FAST-CHARGE!!! IN DEED.
I quite like the Meizu Metal.
But after browsing and letting the official forums translate. I found out, that the Meizu Metal right now only runs on YunOS which you can’t root 🙁
So either I pay more and get the MX5, or wait for the review of the LeTV from Andi.
Hopefully they will soon release the silver version, because I don’t like the copper look of the the golden version.
MX5 also has laser focus too
@Gizchina
Is that the silver or gold version in the video?
The golden version looks very much like copper or red-gold in most pictures.
There is no Silver version available on the market yet. It is not available even onlemall.com. There is only the Gold option for now.
There is a silver version http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_260831.html
http://www.geekbuying.com/item/LeTV-1S–LeTV-One-S-5-5–FHD-4G-Android-5-1-3GB-32GB-Smartphone-64bit-Helio-X10-Turbo-Octa-Core-USB-C-Touch-ID-13-0MP—Silver-357034.html
The Silver version was shown in the renders but not announced in the original release. Both GearBest and GeekBuying are selling them as pre-sale. I follow the official Chinese store directly so there is no news when the Silver version will be available yet.
release a US version and I’ll give you $300
+1
Although I don’t understand a word, here is a video where you can see the X600 and X500 side by side https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tz-YeVe_az8
Hi Andi, what about upgrades? I mean, Marshmallow is out there, at least they could’ve aimed for 5.1.1, is this a bad sign? Do you think they’ll upgrade anytime soon? Thx!
I doubt we will see 6.0 based EUI this year, it’s a highly customised ROM with a ton of features.
Thought so… I guess my wife can live on 5.0.2 for the coming years… (as long as they support that version).
Do you guys know any 2.0Ghz Helio X10 chipset version coming with this LeTV Le 1s phone, or just this 2.2Ghz? Thanks
only the 2.2ghz version has been released.
another version with the underclocked SoC won’t most likely happen.
Then could you please check out this piece?:
http://www.giztop.com/letv/le-1s.html
This one says 2.0Ghz. I thought this was a reliable seller, now I am a little bit confused.
Thank you
they got the info wrong or partially wrong since they wrote:
Mediatek 6795T @ 2.0 GHZ
the MT6795T is clocked @ 2.2 GHZ
as you can see here
system-on-a-chip.specout.com/l/1153/MediaTek-MT6795T
while the MT6795 is clocked @ 2.0 GHZ
the difference is on that “T” which is supposed to mean “Turbo”
same SoC, just different clock
I just checked against the official Chinese website. This was stated there so I am concluding that it will be a Helio X10 2.2GHz octa-core processor.
MediaTek helio X10 Turbo处理器
8核 64位 8×A53 2.2GHz主频
that’s exactly what i said below ↓
There is no Silver version available on the market yet. It is not available even on lemall.com. There is only the Gold option for now.
liaow.com has silver version. a little more expensive, but very good service and he installs play store, google installer etc. google installer is important for installing google contacts, because with the Letv contacts app you need to have Letv account in China
There is only the 1S Gold version listed on that website. Anyway, there will be a Silver version but it is not out yet. Any orders placed at this point is just a pre-order and LeTV has not announce when the Silver version will be coming out yet.
I am so ready to replace my ulefone be touch 2!! Torn between mi4c and letv 1s!! Please help…
if u have the quid , i HIGHLY recommend Mi4C !
or wait for the review of Le 1s and decide then…
Thanks for the help. My indecisiveness made me miss the singles sale at aliex… He he…
What’s most important to you from a phone?
1. Camera
2. Stability
3. Strong GPS and wifi
In that order
Ok, you will find my upcoming Mi4c vs OPX vs LE1s camera shoot out interesting then
Alright! Thanks andi. 🙂
Please share your views on music or sound of this set. Is it equipment to HIFI of letv one pro.
Tested it on spotify with headphones and it seems to be atleast as good as on my Oppo Find 7a, in other words it seems great so far!
it costs $280 in PAk 🙁
Shouldn’t it 199USD?
exactly…
hey buddy i want to buy meizu metal in pakistan from gearbest so can u tell me whole procedure how will i do so. and most important IMPORT TAXES! how much i need to pay for 220$ phone ?
hey there …
first things first … im trying to figure out the same thing. general impression is , people are importing from Aliexpress rather than any other site , so you should look into that.
as far as taxes and other stuff goes , im still working that out. Tell you what , you also ask around general forums in Pakistan and i will too. whoever gets solid info , informs the other.
payment is through credit cards but diff banks do different rates for rupee to dollar exchange so keep an eye out for that !
Can one change the laucher on this phone?
Sure you can just download one from the Playstore
Ok, thanks for the info. For some reason I was under impression that the ablility to change the launcher was disabled from the settings menu in LeTV phones.
Actually here is the link to the story I had read about it. http://devchaotic.blogspot.fi/2015/08/change-default-launcher-on-letv-s1.html
I’m not sure if I want to root the phone if that effects the ability to update the phone (not sure if that effects to that).
no need to root the phone, just change the default launcher in the settings.
no need to edit configuration files.
Ok. Have to wait for full review of the phone but I’ll think this might be quite perfect phone for me.
How can you install titanium backup and frezze the bloatware without root?
that’s not was he asking for.
to change the default launcher you don’t need root.
you can set default launcher in:
settings->app management->default apps (left side down under)->launcher and then select which one you want. i use apex, it is very smooth with the X600
Does the back cam have OIS (optical stabilization)?
no.
don’t forget it’s a $173 phone.
it’s a pitty… X600 has OIS and this one, with metal body and fingerprint scanner doesn’t ;(
the X600 does not have OIS either
Really?
@Andi: could you please share your opinion? As you’ve tested it:-)
The LeTV One should have OIS, but then again the Le 1S have PDAF instead
Hello Andi,
Could you check, please, the sensors instaled on this
phone? I’ve seen some antutu tests and it seems it lacks a few, like
g-sensor, gyro, linear acceleration, rotation vector. This sensors are
not mentioned on their product page, too.
yes, I will check
Thanks. I will truly appreciate it.
Does it have otg support, NFC, FM Radio and RGB Notification led?
Dear Andi,
does it have LED notification
Regards
Arifullah
how good is the battery in your opinion?
Thanks
Well I can tell you when I’ve had the phone now for 3 days that the battery is not good at the moment. Even though the rom “should be stable” it’s clearly not. Last night my battery drained from 50% to 0 during the night. Haven’t yet sorted out what’s cousing the drainage, but is seems it’s the OS itself and then the “remote app” for controlling you TV etc. which is not able to be disabled. Hope they will sort things out soon. When I got the phone there was an update available which I installed, this version of the os may have coused the problems.
Drained just 3% last night when I had on “battery saving mode”.
So where’s all the tears over the large screen bezel… oh wait it’s not an Elephone. This LeTV has huge bezels.
I think what people mind is Elephone teasing ‘the world’s first bezel-less phone’ and then releasing a phone that has… well, bezels.
so nice. hope you guys get a bluboo Xtouch soon other than this would be my first choice, but no micro-sd is a big deal as i carry a lot of games and work stuff to places with out network connection (read: no cloud options) and the bluboo does have support for micro-sd cards.
Andi should get the Xtouch soon, be around 😉
GREAT !!!!
Redmi Note 2 and a powerbank – nothing will beat that in your situation.
Time ofr someone to give LeTV a tip: make the same thing in 5in size!! I’d die to see a 5in versin of x600.
if you die then youwon’t see it
You don’t know how many lives I have 🙂
After reading review after review after review of different phones in the LeTV Le1(S) Price range the last few months i came to the conclusion that, probably, this phone gives the best bang for the buck. I have bought phones from China before (HDC, Huawei, Meizu and Xiaomi) and i paid roughly 180 euros for one Le1S (bought me two tho, for me and my wife). Here in NL these phones would easily reach retail prices around 350-400 euros… If i would spend 180 euro’s here in NL on a phone i wouldnt be able to buy me a phone that would get even close to the Le1S features. Also i never had ANY problems with any Chinese Phone i ever bought… So… I think its a good deal 🙂
Where did you buy it? I’m looking for a reliable store online with small chances of getting customs fee in France.
you should look at Giztop.com no extra shipping fee and from what I heard they have a somewhat different shipping partner which from what I hear once the phone reaches your country it will be delivered by a delivery company rather by reaching your postal office, in my country it is delivered by DPD
I was just looking at them yesterday, it’s 195€ and is more trusted then some of the vendors I’ve sen, with shipping pretty quick. Interested to see how much bloatware will be on their device, don’t really want to flash a device, I’m a noob and have nver done it.
I bought two Letv Le1s and also one Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 with a skin case from from Oppomart dot com. The Letv Le1s costs $199 and de Redmi Note 2 cost me $149. I have bought from them before and i had no problems with them yet. Together with EU Expedited Shipping the order was about $570. And i gotta say that is a good deal (correct me if im wrong tho 🙂 )
It is a good deal, 180€ is the cheapest I’ve seen it go… Does it have playstore and multilanguage rom on there? How much bloatware?
Playstore is on it. Languages are English, French, Spanish, Russian, German, Italian and Portuguese. Ofcourse there are a few apps on there (Every Phone has some nasty bloatware apps on it) that will only support the Chinese language but i suggest you freeze em (with LinkSD for example) so they dont clog up ur screen, thats what i always do :). There is some info around on how to remove bloatware of Letv’s but im not a fan of that cuz of maybe failing future updates…
Awesome ! Thank you ! Would love feeedback on Notification LED, how the sound is and how battery life holds up once you have played around with it.
Well… I received my X500 a few days ago and I’m blown away by it. Antutu shows results between 46552 and 51242(!), depends on what’s running also cuz it ain’t rooted and lots of preinstalled stuff clogs up the internals. With a fairly clean phone (tried to clean the memory, apps/services/etc., as good as possible) it runs over 51000. Multicore on Geekbench is 5288 (this is the test result of my phone posted about an hour ago http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/4346232 ) Also the build quality is very good indeed, the aluminium body looks the bee’s knees, it ain’t exactly gold tho, its more rosé gold kinda look. Mine has all the settings, languages (original rom only has English and Chinese, so I don’t have a stock ROM, I’m Dutch) and goodies on it u could wish for. Fingerprint is really fast also, there is no NFC.The screen is also very good imho. Sadly enough I can’t seem to find a way to shut down haptic while typing and thats annoying…
It has a notification led :). Camera suits me well, nice clear sharp photos, i dont use the cam much tho, not much of a photographer. Battery holds out longer than I thought it would, don’t have the numbers on it but I played around with it all day today and still, while typing, it has juice enough…
I could go on and on but to tell you the truth… I aint seen this kind of value for money in a LONG time…
Now I only need to root it so i can freeze some annoying preinstalled apps.. 🙂 like I mentioned I don’t have the stock ROM but I will try this one out next week, needs a visit to the Chinese letv forum tho, thank god for Google translate…

Where did you saw it for 180€?
http://www.everbuying.net/product1111413.html?utm_source=shareasale&utm_medium=shareasale&utm_campaign=shareasale
It is back on presell as there have been a lot of sales.
Yup… People really want it…
Yeah, me included !
Does it have led notification
am i the only one who will never buy a phone with built in battery and without sd card ?
Well, im not that demanding battery wise, im not on my phone all day… And 32gigs of internal storage is plenty for me. It all depends on how you use your Phone…
no, there are few around just like you.
The problem with them is that they have very very very limited options.
Still have the Redmi note 2 going for you
if possible i’d love to see a LeTV Le 1s “pro” with a 4200mah Battery and micro-sd support, that would be just amazing, IMHO.
i’d love more to see a le 1s “ultra” with a 6000+ battery…but man, reality is different 🙂
We just have to know if 3000 is enough or not…
Could someone explain me how do they get to install the Play Store on EUI? do they just flash the Gapps through recovery mode?
I also found other resellers saying that they could install other languages than english/chinese on this… I just wonder how they could just add another languages on android ? and if it could be problematic for further updates ?
if some android savvy folks are passing by…
you can download Play Store from here!
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-store/google-play-store-5-9-11-3-android-apk-download/
Nice review
Damn damn damn,
nice phone but I’m missing required LTE frequencies (800 and 900) :/
Just ordered this phone today, can’t wait for it to arrive.
From Giztop ?
yeah
Gaaaaah it has been eyeing me ! Taking so much self control not to pull the trigger, but I have to wait for more reviews on battery life, and if OTA updates on EUI ar frequent enough before pulling the trigger… But I am getting impatient !
I know exactly how you feel, I couldn’t help myself to not pull the trigger on it.
I’m holding strong, wish me luck Raul ! Once you have received tell me how you like it !
Hi Raul,
Does it have otg support, NFC, FM Radio and RGB Notification led?
Don’t know yet, you can ask Andy if he can confirm, the only thing I am interested in from what you said there is the Notification LED.
There is a small “LED dot” on the upper part of the phone on the left side. It can be red, yellow or green. It will blink if you e.g. get a message. It will blink red when battery is low, and while you are charging it’s first red, then yellow and when done it’s green.
Can you tell me how’s the battery life and camera on the phone? I heard reports that the current firmware has issues regarding these 2 things.
Camera bad/mediocer and lets not talk about the battery.. So I’m afraid that you are correct. The current firmware have some serious problems. There was an update available when I started the the phone for the first time so I updated. This update may be the problem, or the update was a bad try to fix the problem. (hard to say when the details regarding the update is in Chinese on the phone). Either way I hope there will be a fix as soon as possible.
@Gizchina:disqus is this something you can confirm and do you have any idea of when there is a fix on the way? My phone is bought from shop.gizchina
Hi Raul,
hope u received the devise.
does it have LED notification
Hi all,
Does it have otg support, NFC, FM Radio and RGB Notification led?
i have ordered too.Waitting to get it in my hands.
If only it had the helio x20…MediaTek am looking at you..angrily
Can’t wait for the review.
I really am curious if the missing gyroscope an g-sensors affect daily usage

@Gizchina:disqus any news about the review?
Andi, please check the GPS on your review, because I remember in the review of the previous LeTV you mentioned some GPS problems. I wonder if they’ve fixed them.
I’d actually appreciate special attention to GPS functionality in all phone reviews, as I my phone is one with an old Media Tec chipset (Umi C1) and although I like it a lot, I can’t really use it for navigation….
Thanks for your comprehensive and useful reviews!
Китайцы активно их начали их продавать, а наши активно их покупают. Цены очень вкусные, от 165$. За данный аппарат – просто супер!!!!

the screen is not Sharp? like x600..also no dualflash..it seems also Sar value quite high any can confirm real value?
how to create contact shortcut on home screen. There is no option available.
