In their usual special offer role out, Elephone have started to sell their 4K action camera from $69.99, with pricing increasing as time runs on.
The Elephone Explorer, the 4K action camera with the ELE logo, is now officially on sale with a special launch price of $69.99. This version offer price will begin tomorrow at 3pm. After this first offer pricing will increase to $79.99 on the 24th November, $89.99 on the 28th (with a free 32GB SD card), and finally $89.99 on the 30th.

This action camera appears to be a rebranded version of the various SJCAM cameras already on sale, which isn’t a bad remark as SJ have been making some rather decent cameras recently.
The ELE version has an Allwinner V3 processor, 2-inch display, 900mAh battery, WIFI and will record video at up to 4K, but at only 15fps. Most users will run the camera at either 2.7K at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps.

These will sell well if they can keep the price at the 69$ mark. I noticed one site is selling them at 89$ and onyl in black on limited production run of 500 units.

Yep it’s free delivery and 2015/11/25 is the release date. The $89 price is therefore appropriate to the $69 + postage.
If you want one you better get an order in as there is only 500 units in this first run. Maybe no more till new year since Elephone is releasing so much new product.
I can see retailers in West buying these up in large numbers to resell at much higher price.

what blows is none of these gopro clones do video at 1440p/4:3 resolution. this 4:3 resolution is great for framing more of what you’re filming, and if you want to go 16:9 or 16:10 later, you can selectively crop the clips.
1440p is 16:9 resolution.
1920 x 1440…
1440p is 2560X1440 which is 16:9.
4:3 1440p isn’t 2560 X 1440
There is only one 1440p and it is 2560X1440. There is no such thing as 4:3 1440p. There are other resolutions that use 1440, but they are not 1440p. Just like there are other resolutions that use 1080, but they are not 1080p. 1440p also goes by the name Quad HD they are one in the same, its called Quad HD because it’s 4x the pixels of 720p.

There is no such thing as 4:3 1080p. When you say that I immediately say this guy is very confused and needs to be set on the straight and narrow path in a way that only BalcoBomber can. For future reference the “P” designations only apply to the following resolutions (all 16:9):
540P – 960×540
720P – 1280×720
900P – 1600×900
1080P – 1920×1080
1440P – 2560×1440
4K – 3840×2160.
The only “P” that exists in 4:3 format is 480P, 640×480. You can’t just make up terms because you think it looks right. These are set terms used in the electronics industry.

I believe GoPro actually calls these 4:3 resolutions 960p and 1440p, where the respective horizontal resolutions are 1280 and 1920 (much like 720p and 1080p). I did not know using such nomenclature would provoke such passionate discussion, but nevertheless this is highly amusing to me 🙂
