No kidding: Freedom 251 is a $3.6 phone with 4-core processor, Android Lollipop

As reported last night, Ringing Bells indeed launched a sub-$7 phone in India, the Ringing Bells Freedom 251.

True to its name, the Freedom 251 costs a mere 251 INR or $3.6. We got all sorts of suggestions from readers when we initially wrote about this phone, but Ringing Bells somehow seem to have put together a decent piece of kit.

My thoughts exactly…. As long as it is cheap and I can install Telegram messenger app on it it is a great candidate for them or my kid… I’ll order 3 if it is possible to order them for delivery outside of India… Any news on that?

I really don’t think it would be possible, India is like Las Vegas: “what’s there, stays there” ?

Yeah. I volunteered to help a Gizchina reader with a phone. The FEdEx and DHL guys do not ship phones. 🙁

Phones includes battery which could be a potential issue shipping. I’ve shipped batteries with Sweden Post Surface Mail with success on A-Priority post. But imagine what could happen if the battery explodes during shipping, not good. I would like a cheap phone like this too, but I think it’s subsidized for India only and I would be cheating somebody money getting one. I assume you cannot order Singapore/Sweden Post in India.

Also Indian socket is an issue 😀

Adcom is a New Delhi-based importer of IT products. This particular model is listed on both Adcom’s website and multiple e-commerce websites for approximately Rs. 4,000.

Any idea if Europeans can buy it? I wouldn’t mind paying around 25$ for transport and handling, is still a good price :). Would be great for a backup phone.
