If you are expecting a dual camera setup like LG flagships brace yourself. What Xiaomi calls wide angle camera is normal main camera (27mm). That setup exactly like iPhone 7 Plus. Secondary camera is tele photo (52mm) and has 1 micron pixels, has not OIS and its aperture is f/2.6.

27mm camera hardware on the paper as good as iPhone 7 camera, but Xiaomi is notorious with underdelivered camera performance. Pixel size not big as Mi5s or Google Pixel, but OIS and larger aperture can compansate it, but if its software optimized for shorter exposure times like Mi5, OIS is can’t reduce the noise levels at auto mode. It’s possible to getting better results at manuel mode with longer exposures though.

As a photographer I’ll tell you that 27mm IS a wide angle
That’s what I need, two fast lenses on one device
OIS can compensate the pixel size, but only a litte – with blurred moving objects and less dynamic range 🙁
Zoom camera will be quite suitable for portraits during the daytime, so, no problem in this

Every main smartphone camera out there is wide angle. Main camera of S7 is 26mm, and iPhone 7 has 29mm for example. Wide angle secondary camera of LG G5 is 12mm for example.

  6. April 19, 2017

I’m disappointed in the dimensions of the new Mi 6, especially the weight after we saw their bezel free Mix. The Mi 6 is taller – 147 vs the Mi 5 at only 144.6. So much for narrower side bezels because the new one is wider than the Mi 5 but the biggest bulk gain is the weight – 168 grams vs the Mi 5 at a mere 129. Can’t get excited by the looks although the internals are a clear upgrade. I value compactness in phones so was hoping for something a little more streamlined than this.

    • April 19, 2017

After reading your comment I double checked. The Mi 6 is actually 145.17mm tall; still bigger than the Mi 5, though. The article has been corrected.

      • April 19, 2017

Thanks for the clarification, but this doesn’t help me come to terms with the 40 gram increase in weight. I’m sure they would argue that the bigger battery, different camera and speaker added weight but it is still way heavier than other phones with a similar size display. The Huawei P10 is about 145 grams and the Samsung Galaxy S7 is 152 grams.

    • balcobomber25
      April 19, 2017

Personally I am all for the added weight, this phone reminds me alot of the Honor 8 one of my old phones. That weighed 153g and it always felt like it was too light and flimsy (never had any issues just felt that way). I appreciate a little more heft.

      • April 19, 2017

Well, I loved the Mi 5 and despite its mere 129 gram weight, it never felt too light or flimsy to me. It’s not that I can’t physically handle a heavier phone. It’s just that extra bulk detracts from elegance for me. This was one of the attractions of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge – being narrower than some 5.2 inch phones – it maximised elegance in my opinion. After the MIX, I was expecting something with very small top and bottom bezels and a narrower width.

Hi Balco, what do you really think about the MI6? I am asking because I trust your feelings a lot. Frankly, I am a bit disappointed because the device do not support Band 20 4G LTE which is a frequency used in my country. At the same time, it is not a big deal but still Band 20 might be useful in some places. Moreover, despite the MI6 do not have the audio 3.5mm jack, I was at least expecting a base model with 4GB RAM and 32GB (or 64GB) storage at a price around 350$ after resellers. All that being said, I think that the MI6 is a fantastic phone with top quality hardware and design. The device is already listed on IbuyGou website at 436$ which is 409€ excluding shipping costs.

I am desperately looking for a phone and can’t decide which phone I should get. It will take weeks before being able to buy the MI6 because of demand and low supply. At the beginning, only white color will be available and I will have to wait weeks or months for the black or blue color.

I am stuck here, I don’t know what phone to buy. The MI5S seems to be a good phone but it has downsides like the fingerprint scanner and correct battery life. The Redmi Note 4X seems to be a good phone for the price.

why would anyone want their fingerpritn on the back? must be fun to move and juggle the phone all day each time you want to reach for the fingerprint sensor

also why would they sell a version in china and pay a lot of money extra for each phone just to have all bands that they dont even use..the only one that does that is apple..every other brand has location specific versions

for example leeco, huawei, samsung …just simnply every single brand except for apple

      • cyril symbio
        April 20, 2017

the only moment you need to juggle the phone to reach the fingerprint sensor is when the phone rests flat on the table. So besides when you eat, you mostly sit at a desk and use a computer. When you work at your desk, I give you a trick to avoid the too difficult task consisting in reaching the sensor: put your finger on the screen and slide it up. Then you will have a very very very nice interface proposing you to trace your or type your code. It’s amazingly simple, you should get used to it relatively easily. I guess you didn’t wait to have fingerprint sensors to use a phone. So give it a try. maybe you will be one second slower. Good news, a day contains a lot of seconds.

but why do that if you can simply unlock it pretty easy in every single situation if its on the front

          • cyril symbio
            April 23, 2017

That’s true, why not. I would agree if I were to think the frontal one could be more convenient. But in my case, I find it more functional to have it in the back. Especially when I have to use it in the subway, and need to grip it well. I live in China, in BJ, and the public transportation obey to two laws (at least during the rush hours 06-10 11-14 16-21): 1. the subways/buses HAVE to be filled to the maximum a human body can handle before seeing the bones cracking under the pressure. 2. the drivers only comprehend the binary code 1/0 , ON/OFF, fullspeed/sudden break. Any mistake in your grip and you lose your precious. The back sensor allows me to grip the phone while I unlock it, and avoid funny business with the thumb. My second point would concern the aesthetic. But that is very much matter of taste. In any cases, those are just fingerprint sensors, I would still accept a frontal one. Won’t change my life much.

As a moral person with deep Ethical knowledge I can only say that doesn’t look as a great victory, progress nor any kind of victory but a shameful degradation of the worst kind in every aspect. A big difference between you and me is that their is nothing to be owned by possessing you & you can possess me but you will newer own me, I belong to my self. Would really like to meet you & beat a shit out of you, not that that would help you start thinking for yourself but at least I would feel better for a short period of time.

You are right when saying China is more capitalist than anything else. You are very wrong when you say “beautiful country”. I live in China, and it is not a beautiful country. Interesting country, yes, but certainly not beautiful. I don’t deny you can find a nice spot here and there, if you take a flight, pay the ticket to enter a park, and can easily forget the trashes thrown away by uneducated visitors. Talking about China setting up the rules, you are very very wrong. First, the world doesn’t depend on China, but uses China because so far it’s cheaper to produce here. When it won’t be cheap anymore, they will go to Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. And you know it, as it happens already. Second, Chinese economy is very weak indeed. More likely China need foreign markets to survive as the domestic demands isn’t sufficient to absorb the production. Not saying it will always be. But so far, China needs to export, or it dies. That’s why they are dumping all markets to impose themselves. They that’s because of this dumping and a very low efficient economy and administration that the country’s debt represents more than 200% of its GDP. You just suck. You just watch CCTV and absorb all the shit they spread into your brain man, grow up. The CCP is failing. That’s why they are enforcing the censorship, ban everything they can, to avoid to lose their grip and their control. Once the insane real estate bubble will popup, once state own companies will lay off, once the unemployment rate will explode, what do you think it will happen? mmmh? Don’t think, continue to watch CCTV, believe Japanese and South Korean are your enemies, and don’t spread shit here, you are ignorant, and aggressive.

Every main smartphone camera out there is wide angle. Main camera of S7 is 26mm, and iPhone 7 has 29mm for example. Wide angle secondary camera of LG G5 is 12mm for example.

The ceramic one is 182 grams, that’s almost as heavy as Huawei’s Mate 8 which is 185 grams but a 6 inch display!

    • Pierre
      April 19, 2017

After reading your comment I double checked. The Mi 6 is actually 145.17mm tall; still bigger than the Mi 5, though. The article has been corrected.

    • Moose
      April 19, 2017

    • Moose
      April 19, 2017

      April 19, 2017

why would anyone want their fingerpritn on the back? must be fun to move and juggle the phone all day each time you want to reach for the fingerprint sensor

also why would they sell a version in china and pay a lot of money extra for each phone just to have all bands that they dont even use..the only one that does that is apple..every other brand has location specific versions

for example leeco, huawei, samsung …just simnply every single brand except for apple

    • SnowyCat
      April 20, 2017

but why do that if you can simply unlock it pretty easy in every single situation if its on the front

    • cyril symbio
      April 24, 2017

Why would anyone mess with cheap labour of obedient little modern slaves in modern Capitalistic slavery world order? You perfectly qualify for a place & a role you currently play. Save your cheap directed political speeches for someone who cares. Only thing what confers me is that even this modern Capitalistic era must end even you actually make it last longer than it should had. Regarding pet’s how would you consider a wedding offers by Chinese women’s (as I am male) for a citizenship papers? Well that is a reality even hire & to tell you the truth I don’t look it as a dignity thing to do & it’s a grim thing for Civilisation especially if it’s only other one known.
