Samsung to launch a Smart Speaker in 2019

Galaxy Home

Bixby isn’t really a groundbreaking smart assistant if we compare it with other companies solutions such as Google’s Assistant, or Amazon’s Alexa. However, Samsung feels very confident about its AI solution to the point of being prepared a new Smart Speaker to compete with Google Home and Echo devices in 2019.

Samsung has showcased a premium smart speaker called Galaxy Home several months ago, however, the smart home device still hasn’t made its way to the market. Despite the fact that Samsung didn’t disclose many details about the device such as availability or price, it’s safe to assume that this IoT gadget is meant to be more an Apple HomePod competitor rather than an Amazon Echo or Google Home rival.

Gizchina News of the week

The South Korean company is pretty aware of the tough market it will face, that already have plenty of good devices available to customers. In order to attract attention, Samsung is reportedly working on a more affordable variant of its Galaxy Home speaker. Unlike the standard version, the cheaper unit will be packed with fewer microphones and non-premium features.

This smart speaker will still be powered by Bixby but will aim the midrange segment rather than the premium one. Despite all this effort, the company will still face serious competition from Amazon and Google, and there’s no way to run from it, other than bringing a really good IoT experience with its device, but we’re talking about the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer, we are sure that Samsung still can offer a good experience, but first, it’ll need to promote a full overhaul on Bixby functions.
