Qualcomm is expected to launch the next iteration of Snapdragon 8 series of processors soon. A new leak suggests that the Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC will likely be unveiled next month which is exactly a year after the company began this intermediate upgrade back in 2019.

Significant upgrade from the predecessor

Latest tip coming from Ice Universe on Weibo says that Qualcomm will unveil the Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC in July. He says if there are no accidents meaning unspecified delays that may occur due to the current global pandemic, the company will officially release the successor to the 865 SoC next month.

He further mentions that the new SoC will be present on all the flagships that are scheduled to launch in the latter half of 2020. The 865 Plus SoC is expected to have a higher clock speed of 3.09GHz which is approximately a 25% bump up from the older 865.

The reason we think this could be the 865+ is that the Asus ROG Phone 2 was the first to get the Snapdragon 855+. A similar launch has been set for July this year, where the company is expected to unveil the ROG 3 as its successor.

When will the Mystery unfold?

However, the incredulity regarding a Plus variant of the SoC has remained on the internet for a while now. Initial reports pointed to launch towards the end of 2020. But Meizuā€™s CEO divulged this in April by saying there will be no 865 Plus this year. But recent trends have pointed otherwise.

In addition to this, recent leaks regarding the Samsungā€™s Note 20 series and the 5G version of the Galaxy Z Flip have indicated that there could be a + variant this year.

If we recall, the company began this mid-year upgrade with the launch of 855+ SoC back in July 2019. It gave a 15% boost to the older 855. Following Asus, companies like Realme, Meizu brought the next iteration of their flagships with the SoC.

In all likelihood, we will know more about the existence and performance upgrade the new SoC brings in the coming weeks.
