A well-known insider posted on Twitter the characteristics of Huawei’s promising flagships – Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro. These smartphones, as already officially confirmed, will be released in early September, that is, in accordance with the schedule. At the official level, the use of a 5-nanometer single-chip system of the new generation Kirin 9000 has also been confirmed. True, the source says that this will only be in the older model – Huawei Mate 40 Pro, known under the code designation Noah.

The Mate 40 Pro will also receive a waterfall screen (with curved edges on the sides) made by BOE or LG with a frame rate of 90 Hz, as well as a camera with sensors with a resolution of 50 and 80 megapixels. It will also not do without a periscope module that provides optical zoom and a 3D ToF camera. That is, there will be four modules in total.

The source says the Mate 40 Pro uses a “liquid lens”. In fact, there will be nothing liquid in it, just such a definition is taken from Huawei’s patent solution, in which the sensor is used both for the autofocus system and for stabilization. The technology also implies the use of a system that makes the sensor more resistant to external influences (for example, in case of falls).

As for the usual Mate 40 (codenamed Ocean), it will also receive a screen curved on the sides with a frame rate of 90 Hz and a diagonal of 6.67 inches – made by LG. The camera will have sensors with a resolution of 50, 20 and 8 megapixels. The latter is part of a periscope module with optical zoom.

Front cameras of both smartphones will be double embedded in the screen with 3D Face ID system. Battery capacities – 4300, 4600 and 5000 mAh. Apparently, there will be three models in the series – the third will probably be the Mate 40 Pro+.

Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro prices

The Chinese prices of the Mate 40 Pro variant are also mentioned: 5999, 6499 and 7399 yuan for the version with 128, 256 and 512 GB of memory, respectively ($863, $935 and $1064).

It should be noted that the source of these details has repeatedly made correct predictions regarding the characteristics of the yet-to-be-announced Huawei and Honor smartphones. And, for example, in March, he published a real photo of the Huawei P40 Pro before its announcement.

Huawei Mate 40 will have limited sales in parts of the world

According to Huawei’s consumer business CEO, Yu Chengdong, stated that Huawei’s consumer business sales revenue in the first half of the year hit 255.8 billion yuan ($36.8 billion). In addition, the company shipped about 105 million units. He also revealed that the Huawei Mate 40 series will use the Kirin 9000 chip. This will be the last generation of Kirin flagship chips for now. This is due to the recent ban on Huawei by the U.S. government. Yu Chengdong said that Kirin’s high-end chips are out-of-stock and there will be no reproduction anytime soon.

A recent report from @evleaks claims that the Huawei Mate 40 will not be widely available. This is because Huawei does not have enough chips to produce this smartphone. Previous reports show that the Mate 40 and its Pro sibling will use different firmware. While the Mate 40 Pro will use EMUI 11 (Android 11), the Mate 40 will come with the EMUI 10.x system.

EMUI 11 will be official at Huawei Developers Conference (HDC) which will hold from September 12. Recall that EMUI 19, Huawei’s first EMUI system based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) also arrived at HDC 2019. On Huawei P40 mobile phones, Huawei no longer uses Google GMS, and instead uses its own HMS ecosystem.
