China Launches Disaster Monitoring Satellite

China’s Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern Shaanxi province successfully placed a remote sensing satellite in to orbit yesterday. The satellite known as “Yaogan X” will conduct scientific experiments, land surveys, estimate crops yields and help locate and predict natural disasters. Yaogan X joins Yaogan IX which was launched from the Jiuquan Center in March.
