While it’s the phones, tablets, and other gadgets that usually make the headlines here at GizChina, another category gaining traction amongst Chinese makers are TV boxes.
Newest from China is the Nexbox A1, which is an Amlogic S912 powered device with decent-ish specs. This include: 2GB of RAM, 16GB ROM and an Android 6.0 installation.

That said, the highlight of this device seems to be 4K x 2K H.265 decoding. That, and system flexibility; it features 2.4GHz + 5GHz WiFi, which considering the kind of interference 2.4GHz networks have, is definitely a great addition… and perhaps something that will very soon be a standard.
The device is currently only on pre-sale though, and should be shipping in a month or so. It might be a good idea to wait for reviews, for very similarly spec’d device can be had for a lot less.
Android 6.0 is a good pro but for the rest the A95X can be found for 23 dollar. It also does 4K H265 decoding on a S905 with 1GB RAM. Latest KODI and all the add-ons working.
What would this one do extra? (Except for all the Android 6.0 options)

The 912 belongs to another league.
It would compete with the Tegra X1 (even if still far behind) especially for gaming.
Of course, I should have seen that. I was thinking more in a sense of the average user watching movies/streaming, etc. They advertise with being able to handle 4K but the older chipset could do that too. But gaming is of course a good one.
This one is way faster and has Android 6.0. Would you consider the price difference of 50 dollar (around) between a A95x and this A1 justified? After your message I think so

The biggest gripe with all of them, including the “high” end ones, is the silly remote they package it with. You will always be needing a better option to have access to a mouse-pointer thing, and a decent way to type
Yep, I agree with you, I fixed that issue with mine buy ordering a Rii i25 remote…
The Rii i25A has a microphone and 3.5mm headphone jack too, but I haven’t been able to get those features working with Android so far…
Either way, it’s a fantastic remote, with a full QWERTY keyboard on the underside and an AirMouse built in…

Received this today, nothing on screen when plugged in, with multiple cables, on all inputs into working outlets. Remote doesn’t do anything. What am I doing wrong?
