THL W1 “Youth Version” Goes on sale $160

The THL W1 has been on sale for some time now and recently received a dual-core MT6577 update. Today THL have announced a new entry-level version of the phone with lower 999 Yuan ($160) price point.

The current dual-core W1 is on sale at 1299 Yuan ($208), but to make things more adorable for students, THL have released a “Youth Version” of the phone. It has become very popular over the last 12 month for Chinese manufactures to market both high-end and “Youth Models” of the same phone, Xiaomi and Amoi are other big brands which often do this.

Gizchina News of the week

So what is different between the low-cost model and full-blown THL W1? Well not much really! Both phones have the same dual-core MT6577 processor, 4.3-inch 960 x 540 display, 8 mega-pixel rear camera and Android 4.0 ICS OS, but the entry-level model only get’s 512mb RAM rather than 1GB.

It might not look like much of a saving for us, but for the average Chinese student 300 Yuan would be a few trips to the supermarket.

seems like quite bad deal to me, when you can get Amoi N820 with same specifications + bigger display + bigger (1GB) RAM for 800-900RMB so still cannot find anything which would beat value of N820/N821

can you read? i’ve said you can have Amoi N820, phone with same specifications 9actually better because of bigger display and 1GB RAM) for 999RMB officialy already half year and present price it’s even lower, you can buy it from taobao for 800-900RMB, so this phone with smaller display and half size of RAm for higher price is crap, only benefit is 2 flash LEDs
