UMi have listed full specifications for both of their up coming quad-core MT6589 phone complete with network support details for the UMi X2 and X1s.
One of the most requested features we are asked to list is what networks Chinese phones support. Unfortunately this isn’t always possible as Chinese manufactures don’t always make the details known, or specifications change without notice.
Thankfully Umi, the manufacturers of the much talked about UMi X2 have published full specifications for the X2 and X1s complete with details of the frequencies both of the new MT6589 phones will work on.

According to the table shown above, the X2 and X1s will both support GSM 850/800/1800/1900 and WCDMA 2100. As both phones are dual-sim models they will be able to accept both a WCDMA and GSM sim at the same time.
After a quick Google search we can see that both UMi phones should be compatible with 2G GSM networks in the following countries and networks:
- France: Bouygues, Orange, SFR GSM, Virgin
- UK: MCom, T-Moblie, TeleWare
- Ireland: Vodafone, O2, Meteor, Tesco
- Spain: Orange, Movistar, Vodafone, Simyo, Yoigo
- Portugal: Vodafone, TMN, Optimus
- USA: AT&T, T-Moblie, Fido, Suncom, Airvoice, CTC, Edge, Indigo, Tuyo, 7-Eleven, Callplus, O2, Lucas, Suncom
- Canada: Rogers, Fido
- Australia: Optus, Telstra, Vodafone, Virgin
- Italy: TIM, Vodafone, Wind
As for 3G any carrier offering UMTS 2100 should be compatible with these phones. GSM Arena have a handy tool to see which networks your country supports here.
FYI these details are just here for reference and while we have found the details to be true via web searches, we have not tested them for ourselves. We suggest you contact your carrier to confirm support before buying any Chinese phone.

Cpurage, You said that 900-3G is an advantage and superiority of the Umi X2 over the Jiayu G4… In reality, this advantage is fake 🙂
OK OK we will wait and we will see, cause if even the JIAYU G4 will have only 2100 (Like obviously the UMI X2 have ONLY on words only for now), then I will also preffer to buy the JIAYU G4 instead of the UMI X2

It will be very funny if Jiayu G4 will support this frequency (900MHz of 3G) and Umi X2 will not support it! 🙂
I like both phones and I’ll take the one that supports 900/2100 if both are not able to support 900/2100 I’ll wait for a phone with MT6589 which WILL support 900/2100 or even more frequencies 😉
if you see in the picture you posted you will see that in gsm says: 850/800/1800/1900…. 800??? that one is fake for sure!

I would not be suprised if the X2 was 900/2100, since that looks to be the default radio on the MTK6589 just like on the MTK6577; except for it now supports HSPA+.
The UK network support given is rather strange “MCOM” and “Teleware” are orivate minor networks… The X2 will work on all major UK networks 2G bands, because in the UK they either use GSM900 or GSM1800; moreover, it should work on all 3G bands because the original 3G networks in the UK are all on 3G2100. The UK also has some networks reusing frequencies for 3G900 so you should get that aswell.
I can confirm that O2 and Three work fine on MediaTeks modems, as I have used both networks for 2G/3G access with MTK6577 chips before. Since the MTK6589 supports the same bands, it will also work on those networks.
So you think the X2 will have working 2G/3G on networks other than t-mobile such as o2 or Three? Anybody know if the JiaYu G4 will work on UK 3G networks?
Of course they will work both (UMI X2 and JIAYU G4) if they have only WCDMA 2100 coverage only in all cities in UK, but if in some cities there is WCDMA 850/900/1700/1900 probably the 3G will not work because the support of only WCDMA 2100 (for JIAYU G4 i’m 99% sure, but the UMI X2 should have 900/2100)
The 3G900 coverage in the UK is on top of already existing 3G2100 signal. So major cities are covered by both 900/2100 signals for Vodafone/O2. Take at O2’s signal checker and change the device so one that doesn’t support 3G900.
I can switch off the 3G900 or the 3G2100 on my W6 in Leeds and get signal on O2. I’ve since switched to Three and get full signal on their network which is 3G2100 only (they piggyback on someone else for 2G, hence you get ‘roaming’ warnings) for now.
next time , why dont you make a Quad band GSM and Quad Band 3G compatible, many more people will buy it. and i would sell a lot more at my store !
That’s My Man. We are thinking in the same way. The main leakage of all those chinesse phone is the 3G Band compatibility, with two words they are not Multiband and may be that’s why they are so cheap !
