TCL P606 is a quad-core phone for those who think 4.5-inch is enough

If a 4.5-inch display is all you want/can handle on your mobile smartphone, yet to desire the thrill of a quad-core MT6589 there isn’t really much to choose from. However TCL seem to be listening to your shouts as the TCL P606 is almost the phone we want to see!

I say the TCL P606 is almost the phone we want to see, because for some unknown reason they have given the 4.5-inch a QHD 960 x 540 resolution rather than the preferred res of 1280 x 720.

Gizchina News of the week

If you haven’t already stopped reading then the TCL P606 makes up for the lack of HD by way of pure grunt and high quality rear camera. The processor in the slim 8.99mm phone is a 1.2Ghz Mediatek MT6589 unit, there is 1GB RAM (fine considering the screen) 4GB ROM and space for a 32GB SD card.

TCL have been nice enough to equip the P606 with dual-sim support, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, GPS, Bluetooth, 1.3 mega-pixel front camera and 8 mega-pixel rear. The dual-sim feature supports both WCDMA and GSM while the JB OS has been modified to use Baidu’s could services and apps.

Pricing for the TCL P606 is currently listed a 1299 Yuan ($208) for a limited time and will rise to 1399 Yuan ($224) after the initial launch period.

Sounds a bit to pricey… But we are all easily spoiled by these Chinese prices.
To bad about the screen. But not a real deal breaker if everything else is good.

What’s the difference between this and the P600 that is already being sold in etotalk (at least they say they have it in stock)? Because the specs I’m looking at seem to be the same.

Also, for those of us in Europe, the TCL P600 seems to be the Asian version of the Alcatel One Touch Snap (the LTE-less version), except the Alcatel version is reported to come with Android 4.2.1 πŸ˜€
Also, if the trend of prices of the TCL S800 vs Alcatel OT 997D mantains, the OT Snap should get released in Europe at the same price or lower than the TCL version πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

This will be really fast with this low res ! Yes the price should be lower. What about GPU? What model?

Really qHD screens are out of the question for me, even at 4.5″. Can’t believe theys till churn out 5+” qHD with MT6589 chips. It’s either HD (720p) or FHD (1080p) in 2013 & beyond.

I can’t understand why people want full hd on a MT6589, like i did not understand people who bought hd with the 6577.

Best combination will always be 6577 –> QHD and 6589 –> HD

Why? If you don’t really game too much, or just play simple 2D games, 1080p is perfectly fine on MT6589.
