Good news JiaYu G4 fans! JiaYu have released the first side by side comparison photos of the 1850mAh ‘thin’ G4 to the 3000mAh ‘thick’ version, could this hint at a not to distant launch date?
The 4.7-inch JiaYu G4 is scheduled for launch during next month. We don’t know when, and we don’t know how much the premium version will be, but what we do know is that 3000mAh G4 isn’t all that much thicker than the cheaper 1850mAh model.
Photos here were posted on the official JiaYu forum just moments ago and show a thicker black G4 in comparison to a slightly thinner white model.

There really isn’t that much difference between the two phones and even the officially measurements claim the difference is just 1.8mm between the 2 (JiaYu G4 3000mAh 10mm JiaYu G4 1850mAh 8.2mm).
Any other differences between the two JiaYu G4 phones?
It’s still not clear if JiaYu will be offering both the thin and thick version in both Premium and Youth configurations, if they are not though this would mean the thicker Jiayu G4 Premium model would have 2GB RAM and 32GB of ROM while the ‘Youth’ model will get just 1GB RAM and 4GB ROM.
As soon as we know the official launch dates for the JiaYu G4 then we will post the news on Gizchina.
Thanks Andi. Looks like the premium gets a black anodised metallic band whereas looking at other photos the basic gets a shiny metallic band….will wait for the premium if thats the case!
Just noticed that the Jiayu shop in Spain: http://www.jiayu.es is quoting three models : Basic at 225euros, Basic with 3000mAh battery at 235euros, both available in Spain at the end of April and the Premium model at 270euros available at the end of May in Spain.

What makes you think that? Sure the site is still under construction in some areas but it looks ok where it exists. The address and phone number seem ok. I will phone on Saturday and see if I get any sense. It is important to me as I have a house near Valencia so it would be handy for an extra battery etc. Also now think my assertion above could be wrong and that all black G4 phones may have black metallic band as per Colin’s posting below.

10 mm is only 1 cm , it is still good and reasonable …. i hope the premium version price does not jump. $230 or less will be great….. don’t be late Jiayu.
The thing is these images are deceptive. 8.2mm is very slim, thinner than both the GS2/3 and the Nexus 4. 10mm on the other hand is not particularly slim by phone standards. If the only difference is the thickness and they can manage decent battery life on the lower end model (the extra 1GB ram is not a deal breaker for me) then it may be a better option.
I agree, the difference shouldnt be underrated… also, the back cover design design seems to have a different bend radius for the thick and thin version: you can’t make out a difference in that straight face which e.g. holds the volume control, but there is clearly a difference on that face where the usb-slot sits…
I would be really interested in knowing how long the 1850mAh battery would last with a 720p display. Guess we gotta wait for reviews…
Yeah exactly, The odds are stacked though given that the nexus 4 (which basically has the same screen size + a few more horizontal pixels) packs a 2100mah and is not particularly great in terms of battery life. However the G4 will run a more power efficient cortex A7 based SOC, which may help to improve battery performance a bit. Seems an odd decision to be honest, why jiayu did not just save time and try and go for one size which was a touch thicker, at say 8.9mm and use a 2500mah cell, is baffling.
A big.LITTLE 8 cores phone is more power efficient than 4 cores little (A7) only phone? Are you high? Not to mention it’s 1080p 5″ vs 720p 4.7″.
What time would they save by going 2500mAH? And are your jeans so tight that 1.8mm difference bother you so much?
Lol, who said anything about 8 cores? Nexus 4 is a quad core Qualcomm s4 pro APQ8064 with 1280×768 4.7 inch display (It’s not 5 inch 1080p). Jiayu G4 is 4.7 inch 1280×720, so they are very similar display wise. Cortex A7 power consumption is a bit better than cortex a9/a15 but not that much better. I have a Xiaomi Mi one, next to GS2/3 it looks very chunky, some people dont care about slimness but i like slim phones and 8.2mm is visbily thinner than 10mm in hand.

I’m a bit afraid of the 2GB version by now. I don’t need 2GB anyway so a 1GB version with a bigger battery would be good.

Actually if I’m not mistaken, based on the Jiayu Official Forums, they said that the black model with silver band is just an engineering sample. The production model will have black band.

I dont play many video type games and already have my 64GB class 10 TF card loaded and waiting, so the Basic seems a more sensible choice. Are there any other advantages of the 2Gb ram other than gaming? One of the resellers has stated that the USB is OTG so I can always attach another 32Gb usb card if I need to.

I’ve used the G3 so I can tell u that 1GB RAM and 4GB ROM is good enough. It’s super smooth with applications and yes, u can always transfer apps to SD if you’re running out of space. There are no other advantages of 2GB that I can think of other than being able to multitask more but I want it because it wouldn’t be an upgrade if I settled for another phone that has 1GB RAM and 4GB ROM which is why I want the advanced version.
About the battery, I think you can get through the day with just the basic version since u don’t play games but if u want to upgrade the battery and just switch to a bigger phone case, I’m not sure if that’s possible. I remember reading somewhere that the phone case and battery are not interchangeable, so I suggest waiting for the reviews b4 buying if this is important to u.
About the OTG, if u asked from a reseller, u cannot confirm the validity. If u asked directly to Jiayu and they said that OTG is possible then it’s ok. Sometimes Resellers either tend to lie or just don’t know and provide u with wrong information. In my opinion Jiayu G4 does not have OTG but let’s just hope they do!! 😀
Last time I asked Jiayu told me you couldn’t swap between batteries. They might be saying this just to get people to opt for the more expensive model, or it could be true. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Received my Jiayu G3 silver a couple of weeks ago.
So glad I’ve been able to buy it before the discontinuance — G4 is too boringly similar to other Chinese “iphone-like” smartphones. G3’s design was much more attractive.
Hopefully they’ll reconsider this design trend and will add something different into their product line.
But what I like for sure is that they kept their sturdy “lunchbox” plastic packaging — I like it much more than other brand’s fancy boxes and will keep G3’s box while I use the phone.

I sold my Jiayu G3 way back in early January for this phone. Currently using my old phone as a temporary phone until the Jiayu G4 arrives on my doorstep.
Are the quad cores inside the G4 Cortex-A15, or A9? If the latter, are they any Chinese smart phones on the market right now or shortly that are A15 powered?
The MTK6589 is quad-core A7, which is similar in performance to a quad A9 but is more efficient so it uses less battery. It’d be surprising if anyone releases a pure A15-based phone as they are for performance and use more battery. Even the Samsung Octa only use A15 in a big.LITTLE so there are A7’s in the chip that give good battery life on low-power things.

I have seen a couple of chinese brands. They apparently look good. Can you please name those devices/brands whose android updates will be available (either officially or unofficially).
Most of the brands here support updates for their phones. Jiayu, UMi, Neo, Zopo, Newman, Xiaomi, Meizu and others all update on a regular basis.
if so, can you kindly give a preference order based on your personal opinion (build quality,battery perf., etc), as i have no knowledge abt any brands.
I think xiaomi and meizu in top level,
Jiayu, zopo, umi, neo is in same level

Pandawill also delayed the G4 Advanced model, now it says 15th May.
Apparently, the camera caused the delay.
“The reasons for the delay are:
1. Software issue: 13 mega pixels camera failed debugging. The manufacturer only debugged 8 mega pixels camera so far.
2. Hardware issue: 13 mega pixels camera is out of stock. ”
I don’t believe this is the real cause, why would have they announced it only today (on Pandawill’s market day), was this not an issue during last 3 months?
