What’s this! A low-cost Meizu ‘Blue Charm’ phone with a ‘confirmed’ launch date for 13th June!

Meizu have always aimed for the boutique end of the market, but as other phone makers move in on their turf and markets are getting tough Meizu have decided to make the plunge and launch a low-cost phone codenamed ‘Blue Charm’.

Rumours started yesterday that Meizu were working on a low-cost smartphone codenamed ‘Blue Charm’. Less than a day later the official Meizu forums are confirming the report and talking of a June 13th launch date.

Gizchina News of the week

The new phone is thought to be visually similar to the current Meizu MX2, but to keep costs down a smaller 4-inch 960 x 640 display has been opted for along with a dual-core Samsung Exynos CPU, 1GB RAM and an 8 mega-pixel rear camera.

If reports are correct then the new Meizu will be the most affordable phone from the company to date as prices are expected to be as low as 1399 Yuan ($228), if these hardware details are accurate it could be the most energy efficient Meizu model too.

It will be hard to compete with the Xiaomi Mi2A with quite similar price!

    Fail.

When big brands came out with “low-cost” phone it’s always have worse spec than the top model of the smaller brand, and more expensive too.

Why do they fail? I understand the situation with this one, but the Xiaomi M2A is a great low cost phone from a big brand.

Not really, the spec isn’t just as crippled as other big brand. It’s not “Great”, just good.

Nope, fairly certain it’s great. A dual core processor stronger than the MTK6589 plus all the other add ons like 5GHz WiFi and nfc are a great deal in my book.

Looks lika that they want it to be like Red Rice from Xiaomi, but with a bigger price and less interesting specs, well done Meizu!

Blue Charm vs Red Rice. I see what they did there.

Well wharever this phone maybe, at least they have given a confirmed launch date unlike the majority of other companies, trying to break into the smartphone market in China.
