Today most of our Xiaomi hongmi 2 questions are answered as the highly anticipated smartphone receives the official green light!

Over the past few months one of the hottest topics on everyone’s lips is “when will the Xiaomi hongmi 2 launch?” and “what spec will the Hongmi 2 have?”. As with any high-profile phone there have been numerous leaks and sources, and many contradictions, but now we finally have the answers!

Today 3 versions of the Xiaomi Hongmi 2 received their official network licenses over on the TENAA website. One a TD-SCDMA versions (which we aren’t to interested in) and 2 variants with WCDMA support!

From the 3 network licenses we have learnt that each phone will have a 5.5-inch 1280 x 720 display, weigh 192g and measure 154 x 78.7 x 9.45mm. Each model which received a license today has just 1GB RAM like the original Hongmi, but updated cameras, with a 13 mega-pixel on the rear and 5 mega-pixel on the front.

The TD-SCDMA version does appear to be slightly different in design with a white lip running around the edges and lower section of the phone, while both WCDMA versions are all black. Designs are similar to the original Hongmi only with a larger body to accommodate the larger 5.5-inch display.

From the specifications it looks like customers will be able to choose from either a 1.7Ghz octacore Mediatek processor or 1.4Ghz Snapdragon chip for the WCDMA version, where as TD-SCDMA customers can only have the option of a Qualcomm processor.

It is the Snapdragon WCDMA Hongmi 2 which interests us the most as this chipset is probably the Snapdragon 410 which 64-bit Cortex A53 architecture which can also support 4G LTE. It hasn’t been listed if the WCDMA model has 4G LTE, but past rumours purported the Xiaomi Hongmi 2 would get faster network support!

We believe Xiaomi will release these new phones together with a 4G LTE equipped Xiaomi Mi3S in April during a Xiaomi festival in Beijing. Keep posted for more news.

My Innos D10 claims to have a 6000 mAh battery, yet is 202g. Sure they’re hiding something or it has a stainless steel case!

Disappointed. I thought octa-core version of Xiaomi Hongmi will have 2GB RAM.

hmm, pretty disappointed if i’m honest. Main issues being screen size and resolution. 5.5 inches with a pretty hefty bezel is just too BIG in my opinion. Also you can get sub $200 phones which are considerably thinner than 9.4mm. Plus 1280×720 on 5.5 inches is to just too low a pixel density for 2014 when you consider what motorla have done with the moto G. 4.2.2 again surprising and disappointing considering how long both 4.3 and 4.4 have been out. Genuinely surprised by this as Xiaomi usually stay ahead of the curve.

5.5 “is too big. He leaves the smartphones list and enter the list of phablets.’i’ve Seen that the edge will be huge! So I’m out!

Man that screen size is now bigger then the flagship Mi3S!

    • March 13, 2014

Yep, they did the same last year. They had the 4.3-inch Mi2S as the flagsip then released the 4.5-inch Mi2A and 4.7-inch Hongmi.
