Elephone release Android 4.4.2 Kitkat for Mediatek – Download now

elephone p7 blade

As promised Android 4.4 Kitkat is finally rolling out on to Mediatek powered Android phones! One of the  first manufacturers to release 4.4 on is Elephone!

Elephone have realeased Android 4.4.2 Kitkat for some of their Android smartphones running Mediatek processors. It is a refreshing change to see a smaller phone manufacturer lead the pack when it comes to releasing ROMs and Elephone have done a good job at offering the new KitKat ROM on some of their range with the rest to follow later this month.

We have not tried the ROM ourselves (as we are awaiting an Elephone for review) but those of you with Elephone smartphones can follow the links after this video to try it our for yourselves:

Someone get these guys medals! Kudos to Elephone for being the first Chinese manufacturer to release a downloadable KitKat ROM for their phone! I might get myself an Elephone P9 now I know which brand released it’s updates first. If there’s one complaint I have, it’s that the P7 has yet to be updated since it’s the one needs this the most.

On a side note, which phone will you be reviewing Andi? The P7 or the P9?

I think the first one is lenovo with Vibe 1.5 (4.4.2)

Vibe (or at least the version I used) is pretty laggy.

It took a bloody long time! Lets hope that the Jiayu F1 gets updated with android 4.4 so we can have a seriously cheap android 4.4 phone.

I will try to install it on my P9. Will leave a review if I manage to install it 😀

    Well done Elephone!

On a side note Andi, can you use your powers and contact ThL and ask them when they’ll be ‘pulling their fingers out’ and getting some 4.4.2 goodness on the go?

    I have friends here in the UK with a w100, w8s and a t200 all running 4.2.

    Shocking…

I agree 100%, a new ROM for the W8s would be good. That phone was only released second half of last year and they gave the original W8 an update from 4.1 to 4.2.

      4.2 has some advantages though.

On your computer , install pdanet- vcom drivers for mg6592 phone , install latest version of sp flash tool , download kitkat rom for Elephant P8.
Unzip and install drivers , unzip and open sp flash tool. Click scatter file create in the flash tool and click on elephone P8 rom , double click to get scatter file , this will take you back to the sp flash tool screen. Click download , with USB debugging turned on in phone , power off phone then plug into computer. It should start downloading to your phone. When its finished disconnect phone from computer .remove battery for ten seconds reinsert and turn phone on . If it all went accordingly it should boot into Kitkat.
I had trouble installing on my phone , and had to use a Samsung USB cable before it worked.
Kitkat is smooth with a couple of extra features , battery life is unchanged.

I got 2 elephone P8, one for me and one for my wife. One of them have android 4.2.2 and the other one have 4.4.2. Battery life is better for 4.4.2 (both phones charged 100%, used in the same condition, 4.4.2 remain 40% and 4.2.2. 0%). Definitely 4.4.2 is less buggy, and is a better choice.
