China’s Gionee began the this week and the month with the release of a new slender smartphone! The Gionee S5.1 is now the world’s thinnest LTE smartphone on the market.

Gionee have quite a romance with creating thin phone which all started with the S5 launched earlier this year. Since the original Elife S5 launched we have seen an update with Snapdragon processor, and now a 2nd generation S5.1 with even thinner body.

The Gionee S5.1 now measures an impressive 5.1mm, the overall dimensions being just 139.8 x 694. x 51mm, so it is not just thin it is narrow and short too, making it perfect for slipping in to skinny jeans or a handbag, the spaces the stylish phone is intended to fill.

Of course having a 4.8-inch display does keep the size down, and it is great to see Gionee use an AMOLED panel with resolution of 1280 x 720 that is surely going to look stunning on the sub 5-inch panel. Other features include a Snapdragon 400 quad-core 1.2Ghz processor, 1GB RAM, 8 mega-pixel camera, and LTE which will work on TD-LTE networks only for now.

The narrow body does mean the battery in the Gionee has been restricted to only 2100mAh which might be a sore point for some customers, but the low power processor and small screen should mean that it isn’t as troublesome as it might have been.

The stylish slender phone will come in a range of designer colours too including pink, white, black and light blue. Current Gionee have only released the S5.1 in China, however it will probably arrive in India and some EU countries over the coming weeks.

Gionee has outdone Vivo this time.

Good phone and would buy it if wanting a phone for the spec-price range. Although have to say im not confident of their UI with all the complains of lags.

Their previous gen S5.5 had an octacore mediatek 6592 and the other specs mentioned here are a clear downgrade, hope the price gets a downgrade aswell, else it will be flaunt of fashionistas only.

The battery size is actually impressing. Lenovo has put a 2000mAh battery in a 5.5inch octacore device.

Just release the old 5.5 with LTE, no need to drop the RAM, change the processor or screen resolution. You already had an amazing phone the only thing you needed to do was add LTE. I

the phone was good, but i have used it and i can say i heats up a lot, though i am aware that smartphones do heat up when the cpu is stressed but it was more than usual, and yes, the battery was a big let down as well, i hope this is not the case with the s5.1
