5.15-inch Xiaomi Mi5 full specs with curved display: Specs and images leaked

xiaomi mi5 mwc

6 days from now we will know the official specs of the Xiaomi Mi5, but tipsters are adamant that we shouldn’t have to wait that long with the release of the full specs.

Apparently someone has managed to get hold of the Xiaomi Mi5 packaging label which tells us the majority of the flagship phones specifications. The image shows a crumpled label (that may have been thrown away for being incorrect) which details that the Xiaomi Mi5 will have a 3000mAh battery and Snapdragon 820 processor among other details (see below).

xiaomi mi5 specifications

Purported Xiaomi Mi5 Specifications

  • Snapdragon 820 2.15Ghz chipset
  • 5.15-inch display
  • USB Type C
  • 16 mega-pixel rear camera, with OIS and laser focus
  • 4 mega-pixel (ultra-pixel) front camera
  • 3000mAh battery

Features which really get my interest are the camera specs, plus the odd size screen. Generally 5-inch, 5.2-inch of 5.5-inch are the norm so why have Xiaomi gone to the extra effort of sourcing a slightly smaller display?

Gizchina News of the week

In addition to the specs of the phone, leaked images of the Xiaomi Mi5’s metal chassis have also appeared this morning, which might help explain the odd screen size.

xiaomi mi5 chassis leaked

The images show a chassis designed for a curved display. The design is similar to the Galaxy S6 Edge but the curvature of the panel isn’t quite as aggressive.

However, there is one detail of the chassis that has my spidey sense tingling. The chassis shows the power and volume rocker on the left side of the phone while Xiaomi always has these buttons on the right. This could be explained away if the images are some sort of Xray which have been reversed but I guess we will have to wait until next week to really find out.

    3000mAh battery Noooooooooo

      February 17, 2016

Exactly my thoughts on that battery. The redmi note 3 series has 4000mah, so this phone should have at least the same capacity if it wants to pass as “flagship”.

Battery is smaller for the phone to be competitive with Oppo and Samsung in thickness.
3000MaH is plenty for a full day of heavy usage(considering that the display is smaller than 5.5 and is only FHD), from what I`ve heard the SD820 is not such a battery hog.

Not pleanty for me. On heavy usage it just drains in 8 hours. You talking nonsense

        • February 17, 2016

I’ll be disappointed if it’s 3000mah too. If you want sth good for heavy usage, ZUK Z1 is a pretty decent choice. I own it since day one. 4000mah battery and SD801 give me very good results.

If you play Asphalt 8 for two hours no wonder, it`s not a gaming console , or play youtube videos for over 3 hours a day for that matter.
You can always buy a good powerbank from Xiaomi for 50$.
According to Qualcomm SD820 consumes much less power than say SD801 and that did fine with a FHD screen and 3000mAh battery, on top of that battery technology has also improved as well as LCD’s now drain less battery than 3-4 years ago.

What is it with all these flagships going for 5 – 5.2″? I thought the hole market was convinced 5.5″ was the way to go?

5 inch would have been better. 5.2 is the maximum Xiaomi can go.

      February 17, 2016

Xiaomi has been using 5 inches for the Mi(#) phone since the Mi3. They will most likely have a new Mi Note coming this summer that is 5.7 inches and they have the Redmi Note 3 that is 5.5 inches.

So… They managed to put a 4000mah on the 5″ redmi 3, and they can’t do anything better with a 5.2″ than 3000mah?! Are they kidding?! Is the “I’ve got it less thick” still a thing?! At this point, the redmi note 3 pro should be an overall better choice (and that would be the reason why they did not put a nicer camera on it)

What you unique features with the S7 have apart from the usual, which is better chipset better camera in low light maybe a bigger battery the screen maybe but what would be the point as its so clear on the S6 which is QHD already and finger print scanner was on the last phone as was wireless charging so what we be so is the so amazing feature that the S7 is going to bring? Being faster than the model last year is not a feature and being waterproof is so what as i have never put my phones near water or taken near the pool or had to use on the toilet.
