Xiaomi Redmi Pro photo samples, and dual camera rumour surface

xiaomi redmi pro

Rumours that the Redmi Pro will be offered with a dual camera have resurfaced today after photos samples from the phone are made public.

One benefit dual cameras on a phone can have is the ability to offer images with more depth. The main sensor can be used to focus on a subject while the second sensor can add the blurred background for some professional looking effects.

Depth of field is certainly present in these newly released Xiaomi Redmi Pro photo samples which has helped to reignite rumours that the phone will be the first Xiaomi with dual cameras.

The dual camera rumour first started with an image that showed the brushed metal phone with two openings on the rear. Originally they were seen as dual cameras, but later some commenters suggested just a single camera design with fingerprint scanner.

Xiaomi are set to release the Redmi Pro later this month. Two versions of the phone are expected with a top end model getting 4GB RAM + 128GB, and a standard version with 3GB + 64GB. Each version will have a 5.5-inch FHD display and either a Helio X25 or Snapdragon 625 processor.

    625 or 652?

None , Andi is on drugs lol.
There are leaks plus Xiaomi has been heavily teasing 10 cores. It’s x20/x25.

Xiaomi has been teasing 10 cores, dual cam and OLED in the last 2 days.

BTW it’s a pity it is not going to be SD650/652 πŸ™ Much more power efficient and less “hot” than X20/X25…

Do you have any evidence to support that claim?
It might be true on the GPU side although the evidence is somewhat lacking but it’s very false on the CPU side. MTK has 39% higher clocks for the X25, a process advantage and more aggressive power management.
SD650 would be cheaper , 652 also cheaper but 4 big cores are too many at 1.8GHz on 28nm. With X25 you get flagship grade pef in apps and good enough GPU.
And Xiaomi already has 2 devices with SD65X, having something faster is preferable to adding a 3rd.

I wrote that based on my personal usage of Redmi Note 3, it’s Pro version and Meizu Pro 6.
RN3Pro with SD650 was significant more power efficient than it’s regular Helio X10 version(over 1h more SOT)
Meizu Pro 6 I have used very short time but it’s battery life was disappointing (I know 2560mah is not a lot in terms of capacity but for 5,2 inch phone it should provide better battery life)

Battery life is a lot more than just the SoC. There is other hardware and there is the software. Plus, the Pro 6 has a tiny battery.

You are comparing a phone with a 2560mAh batter vs one with a 4000mAh and using that as a basis for which chip is more efficient?

helio x10 is an old SoC which have been updated on x20 with 3 layer cpu to 4+4+2 cores. also SD 625 is much more power efficient with 14nm fab.

So this time Xiaomi was using which Canon DSLR LOL ?

Just kidding since now almost every manufacturers also using the same dirty tactics using a very good Expensive DSLR camera to take “sample pictures” for their smartphones review

That’s nothing new it has been going on for years. Either that or they use a professional photographer who then highly edits the pictures. Samsung, Apple, LG, Sony and all the companies from China have all done it.

I’m going to ask another quick question since you’re a GREAT source of information. Off (present) topic: Do you know whether the new 6″ ZTE phone being sold in the US through MetroPCS at $99 is an on-contract price? Or can I just buy one for use in Thailand? Thanks for your help!

        • balcobomber25
          July 22, 2016

From what I understand it’s not an “on contract” price but it is exclusive to Metro PCS. In other words in order to unlock it you will have to pay a fee to Metro PCS usually around $20. You also have to keep Metro PCS service for 3 months before they will provide an unlock code.

Now you could take it to MBK or Fotrune Town and get it unlocked for about 300 baht, but it would be a waste of money. This phone doesn’t have support for any of Thailand’s 3G or LTE networks. You would be stuck with just 2G.

are Metro PCS specialists in extortion and ADVANCED fleecing techniques?

No they are just like any other company they all do things like this for the most part.

Everybody is assuming that it is going to be a 5,5 inch phone…
Looking at the photos I would rather say it is going to be 5,2 inch.
Especially Xiaomi said clearly that this is not version “Note” of Redmi, it is Redmi Pro…

        hey @realjjj:disqus , which one’s a better CPU overall , Helio x25 or SD 625 ?

        • realjjj
          July 21, 2016

Depends at what, at shoveling snow the SD625 would
          be smaller so it loses.
Anyway, those are not CPU’s so….

As for A72@2.5Ghz vs A53 at 2GHz, if you don’t know, you smoke too much.

              July 21, 2016

              A very complex SoC.

For example a quad cluster A73 on 10nm optimized for high perf at 2.8GHz with 2MB L2$ is about 5mm2.
A73 on 28nm HPC optimized for area at 2GHz with 1MB L2 cache is 6mm2 for dual core.
A72 on 16ff is some 1.15mm2 and a quad cluster with cache about 8mm2.

Maybe read this long article and that SoC doesn’t even have an integrated modem, with a modem the CPU would be an even smaller % of the entire thing ( that floor plan on page 2 is the most relevant part to this conversation) http://www.anandtech.com/show/9330/exynos-7420-deep-dive

plz let it be HELIO x25 ! i would love to buy a cheap dual cam phones wit x25 and 4GB ram and good specs πŸ˜€

but it’s OLED and home button and MIUI
anyway according to leaks the 3GB version would be X20 so x25 with 4GB would cost some more.

Yep, it totally looks smaller than an average 5.5″… Someone made me notice it could easily be a 5.15″ sceen like mi5’s one, since they already own many patents on that screen so it could be handy to use it on this model too

Xiaomi will do good, if they add Corning and 2.5D arc glass which escalates the beauty of the device and a larger sound and a more focus into Camera. Will they hear me?

While I understand the idea of using a second sensor to more accurately display depth of field wouldn’t a better suggestion be to more accurately depict colors? I note OmniVision has several 1.3MP cameras with large 4 micron pixels. I might prefer a high MP large sensor main camera supported by a second sensor providing more accurate color representation. And down the line, perhaps a third sensor for depth and a fourth sensor for B&W!
