DxOMark has just published the results of its in-depth analysis of the iPhone XR camera.

The Apple iPhone XR is the most economical of the three iPhones launched this year, offering a single rear camera, unlike the dual camera configuration of the XS and XS Max models.

In terms of specifications, the iPhone XR camera features a 12MP size 1/2.55″ sensor with 1.4 μm pixels, a 26 mm lens with f/1.8 aperture with optical image stabilization, focus by Phase detection and double-tone LED flash.

With a total score of 101 points in DxOMark Mobile, Apple’s iPhone XR is the best smartphone with a single camera that the DxO has tested to date – it is worth remembering that they have not yet tested the Google Pixel 3.

The iPhone XR’s Photo score of 103 points is excellent, the cheaper Apple device offers a very similar image quality as the flagship iPhone XS Max. Equipped with just a single lens, however, both zoom and bokeh shots aren’t as strong on the XR compared to the XS Max, but Apple has managed to improve the flash on the XR a little, which has identified as a weak point for the XS Max during DxO testing.

As for video, the iPhone XR gets 96 points. In general, the XR has a video performance very similar to the XS Max, with a large dynamic range in outdoor videos, and very good color reproduction and white balance. The video stabilization system is also among the best that have been tested, ensuring smooth video playback with little shakes.
