Google is working on two new devices with code names Medaka and Salmon

Google devices are usually designated with the name of a fish in English during its development phase. Now, two new species of fish have been identified in a recent commit of the AOSP repository.

Medaka and Salmon are the two new devices that Google is developing. These two new fish join Bonito and Sargo, two other Google devices that have not been identified.

Two of the authors of the commit are members of the Wear OS team, which suggests that at least one, if not both, could be the rumored Pixel Watch smart watch.

Roland Quandt had already associated the codename Bonito with a mid-range smartphone, which could be Pixel Lite, so it seems that neither of these two new devices will be the Pixel Lite.

Gizchina News of the week

It is worth to mention thatĀ for the fourth time since 2016, Google I/O will be held at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California this year. Google I/O 2019 will take place May 7-9.

This conference is an opportunity for Google to make several software and hardware announcements. On the software side, there will be Android Q, which will succeed Android Pie. Google should take advantage of its conference to share all the details and offer a first beta.

In addition, Google should detail some new features for its services (Gmail, Google Photos, etc) and for its products (Google Home, etc). On the other hand, do not expect new smartphones. Google is used to announce its new pixels in October and not during the I/O.
