Xiaomi gets patent for periscope camera smartphone

Mi mix 4

We’ve seen two very promising periscope camera phones this year from OPPO and Huawei. And a new patent reportedly spotted by 91mobiles from Xiaomi suggests that the company could be the next to launch a periscope camera smartphone.

The patent was filed at the WIPO with detailed images of the front and rear camera placement of the possible handset. It houses a pop-up front camera and rear quad sensors, the topmost one being evidently a square module usually seen as a periscope camera. the right edge has the volume and power buttons, while the left edge has the SIM card tray. At the bottom are the USB Type-C port and speaker grille. The front is all screen obviously but that is all the noteworthy information we can squeeze out right now.

What’s interesting is that Xiaomi was also granted a similar patent by the State Intellectual Property Office in China last month. Now, this, as usual, doesn’t necessarily mean that we will definitely see a periscope lens on an upcoming Xiaomi flagship, but the chances are there. If we were to put our money on a phone this year. it could very well be the Mi MIX 4 that embodies the latest and greatest Xiaomi has to offer.
