The release of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE could be canceled

Galaxy S21 FE

Bad news for those waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE. The smartphone release could be canceled. According to a report from ETNews, which refers to suppliers from the supply chain; the company was forced at the last moment to abandon the ambitious project due to a shortage of chips.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE: Is the flagship release canceled?

The problems with the production of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE became known from partners, who received a notification from the company that the production of the smartphone was paused. It is suspending orders for the production of components for this model and asks suppliers to report the number of components already produced. The partners believe that this behavior of Samsung means that it has made the decision to abandon the release of the Galaxy S21 FE.

Recall that the smartphone was supposed to receive Snapdragon 888 as a hardware platform. The same chip should form the basis of the future Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. The lack of processors forced the company to choose which device to “kill”. According to an industry source, it was decided to sacrifice the Galaxy S21 FE just so as not to disrupt the production of new foldable smartphones.

After Samsung gave the go-ahead for the serial production of components for the fan flagship; it still had to take an unprecedented step and cancel the Galaxy S21 FE due to a lack of chips.

Gizchina News of the week

In theory, production of the smartphone could be resumed later. But stopping the release of a significant device is not a trivial matter and, most likely, will lead to a long delay. This is, of course, assuming Samsung can solve the chip shortage problem. But it’s worth recalling that Qualcomm previously said that the chip shortage could last until the end of 2021, while Intel is more skeptical in its forecasts – the shortage will continue for a couple of years.

Samsung unveils world’s smallest 50MP smartphone image sensor

Samsung continues to expand its range of image sensors for smartphones. In this market, the Japanese Sony is unconditionally leading; and Samsung is striving to take its own with a whole range of offers. The new 50MP ISOCELL JN1 sensor combines the industry’s smallest sensor size for this resolution with one of the smallest 0.64μm pixels. This combination will allow smartphones to be slightly thinner and smaller without degrading image quality.

Samsung calls the new sensor universal. It is suitable for many types of photography and video shooting. It will be possible to find it in future smartphone models, not only in rear cameras; but also in front cameras. With ISOCELL JN1 sensors, selfies will be even better and better.
