Huawei Watch to support blood pressure measurement soon

Presently, a couple of smartwatches in the market supports blood pressure measurement but not without the use of third-party apps. As of now, smartwatch users can easily check blood oxygen levels, heart rhythm, heart rate, and so on. However, getting accurate blood pressure results from smartwatches is not so popular. The most recent Samsung Galaxy smartwatches (Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2), can monitor your blood pressure. However, users will have to first calibrate the device with a traditional blood pressure measuring cuff. Back in May, He Gang, president of Huawei’s consumer business mobile phone product line, announced that the first Huawei Watch that can measure blood pressure has passed the medical device registration test.

According to him, the next step will be to cooperate with professional medical institutions to open clinical registration. From the information so far, the trial will commence in the second half of this year.

Huawei is recruiting testers for this feature

Presently, Huawei is now recruiting users who will test the blood pressure measurement feature. According to a Weibo report, the recruitment is on Huawei member centerJust like every other recruitment, this recruitment has its special qualities. According to the report, the recruitment needs more than 20 testers and their wrist circumference must be greater than 200 mm. Considering the latest recruitment, it appears that the blood pressure measurement feature on Huawei Watch is not far away.

Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Drug Administration issued the “Announcement of the Results of the Priority Approval Application for the Second Class of Medical Devices (Issue 49)”. As of now, we do not know the workability of the Huawei Watch blood pressure measuring feature. However, for Samsung’s solution, users will have to calibrate the device before use. To do that, you will measure your blood pressure with both the watch and a dedicated blood pressure monitor three times. You will need to input the values you get from the standalone monitor into the application. After that, you can freely use the application from your smartwatch.

Whether or not Huawei’s solution will follow the same method remains to be seen. However, Huawei is one of the tech big wigs in the industry. Upcoming technologies from this company are always worth looking forward to. We will probably get more information on the Huawei Watch blood pressure feature in the coming weeks.
