Redmi Gaming Router AX5400

Recently, Xiaomi’s ex-brand Redmi held its first product launch conference in 2022 and uncovered not only the Redmi K50 e-sports version smartphone but also a brand-new router, namely the Redmi Gaming Router AX5400. Today, following the schedule, the latter went on sale priced at 599 yuan ($95). Redmi has always been known for its cost-effective products. So it’s quite interesting to learn about the selling points of this product and understand whether the low price affects the performance.

Redmi Gaming Router AX5400 Design And Hardware

To start with, the design of the Redmi Gaming Router AX5400 is inspired by formula racing cars. Plus, it adopts some cyber mecha elements. As we are dealing with a gaming router, it’s reasonable to see various design elements found on other products from this niche. Say, it comes with 16 million color adjustable ambient lights, support for custom light colors, and a variety of breathing light effects to choose from.

Another important feature of any gaming product is connectivity. In this sense, the Redmi Gaming Router AX5400 5G frequency band is 4×4 160MHz 4804Mbps, 2.4G frequency band is 2×2 40MHz 574Mbps, and the total wireless speed is 5378Mbps, which is approximately equal to 5400 megabits. We guess it wasn’t difficult to guess that the suffix in the product name refers to the overall network speed.

It supports WiFi 6 enhanced version, which directly doubles the 5GHz bandwidth. If the devices support 4K QAM, the 5GHz speed acceleration reaches 20%.

More importantly, the Redmi gaming router supports Mesh networking. This is a multi-node interconnected grid-type network, which does not require manual switching. When you walk around the house, the Internet access device will automatically connect to the strongest signal.

Connectivity

In terms of hardware, the Redmi Gaming Router AX5400 sports a Qualcomm gaming-grade processor. The dual-core 64-bit CPU clocks at 1.0GHz and it also integrates a single-core NPU at 1.0GHz. Among them, the NPU core can greatly improve packet forwarding efficiency (up to 80%) and reduce CPU usage. At the same time, it has a large memory of 512MB. Theoretically, the router can serve 248 devices simultaneously. The external four antennas of the router come with 6 independent high-performance FEMs, including 4 x 5GHz + 2 x 2.4GHz. They all are high-performance independent signal amplifiers.
