Gone are the days when Apple thought about how to make the company sell more in China. Now, iPhones are selling like hotcakes in this market. For instance, the iPhone 14 models are out of stock in most big cities. What’s worse, the official Apple China website shows that the iPhone 14 Pro models won’t reach customers until January next year. The expected delivery time for iPhone 14 Pro and the Pro Max version is 2022/12/27-2023/01/03. Before this, the waiting time for the high-end models on Apple’s official website was about 4-5 weeks. So with every week, the situation worsens.

People Don’t Like Non-Pro Models of iPhone 14 Series

In contrast, the vanilla version of the iPhone 14 series and the Plus model are in sufficient supply. So if you order a non-Pro iPhone 14, it will ship to you the next day. They are also in stock at the retail stores. In other words, Chinese customers (and not only they) are not interested in non-Pro models. The reason is that they still use the previous-gen Bionic A15 chips, while the iPhone 14 Pro variants come with the latest Apple chip. The latter beats all rivals on the market.

Apart from the high demand, there is also another reason for the shortage. We mean due to various reasons, the production capacity dropped a lot. At the end of October, the production capacity of Foxconn’s main iPhone 14 Pro/Max assembly plant in Zhengzhou was affected due to the epidemic. To understand this, just know that Foxconn is Apple’s largest iPhone contract manufacturer. It produces 70% of the world’s iPhones.

Earlier this month, Apple stated that shipments would be lower than expected despite solid demand for the Pro iPhones. They also said that it would take longer to get new phones. At the same time, Apple is also working closely with suppliers to restore normal production levels.
