More woes for Twitter as its France head leaves

Since Elon Musk took over the leadership of Twitter, there have been a lot of uncertainties regarding the company. According to Elon Musk, no employee of Twitter is safe at the moment. When Elon Musk took over, Twitter had about 7000 employees. However, within his first week in office, he fired no less than 3500 employees. Recent reports claim that Musk is considering firing more. However, there are some Twitter employees that are not waiting to be fired. Some of them are just resigning and leaving the company. Damien Viel, director of Twitter’s French business, said that he will resign from Twitter. He took to his personal Twitter handle to make this announcement.


Damien Viel said it was pride, honor and mission accomplished. “Goodbye Twitter France and thank you all for these 7 incredible and intense years”. He adds confirming his departure from Twitter France. However, Damien Viel did not elaborate on the circumstances of his departure. He also refused to disclose the current personnel changes at the company.

Due to the massive layoffs at Twitter, some departments do not have any staff. The New York Times and Fortune also reported that another 1,200 employees resigned following Musk’s ultimatum.

Elon Musk plans to improve Twitter’s video feature

In the third quarter of 2022, YouTube’s ad revenue exceeded $7 billion. By comparison, Twitter’s total revenue in the second quarter was just $1.18 billion. Since taking over on Oct. 27, Musk has begun slashing costs, including laying off thousands of jobs.

On Thursday, Musk told remaining employees that it was “significant” that the company start paying creators to use the platform. “Let’s take a bunch of content creators that we think are cool on YouTube and say, ‘Hey, would you guys consider putting the video on Twitter? We’ll pay you 10 per cent more than YouTube,’ he said., how about thinking about it?'”

Later, Musk encouraged Twitter employees to say: “Just do it. Let’s take action now. If you can do it after this meeting, I will do it too.”

“I’m actually browsing the videos…once you’re in full-screen video mode, you can start browsing the videos. It’s actually not bad,” he said, adding that he sees a lot of fun, funny videos, “I think it is very meaningful to build on this foundation.”

Musk continued: “Actually, a lot of people don’t know about the video feature, and I didn’t tell them about it until this morning. So if we worked hard to roll out the video feature and make it known to more people, that would be a very good move.”
