After years of insistency, it seems that Samsung admitted the Exynos failure in the flagship segment. The last year’s Exynos 2200 was behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in many aspects. After the Galaxy S22 series release, Samsung had to push more Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variants to regions where it used to sell the models with Exynos CPUs. For 2023, the new Samsung Galaxy S23 series will come only in Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flavors. While Samsung develops a new in-house CPU solution to replace the Exynos series, it will be using customized Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoCs. The upcoming Galaxy S23 series will bring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but it seems to be an exclusive version of the chip, developed by Samsung. Now, a new report states that the Samsung Galaxy S24 will follow suit.
Samsung Galaxy S24 series will use an exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU
According to Ice Universe, Samsung’s head TM Roh will talk about the company’s new CPU at the Galaxy S23 series keynote. However, the CPU is still in the early days of development and won’t be ready for the new phones. In fact, it shouldn’t even be ready for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. As a result, Samsung will likely stick with Qualcomm Snapdragon CPUs. The Samsung Galaxy S23 series will pack the SM8550-AC chipset. The SM8550 stands for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but the “AC” means it’s different from SM8550-AB inside recently-released flagships. The new “AC” variant has higher clock speeds for both the CPU and GPUs. As per the reports, this “AC” model is exclusive to Samsung.

It’s impossible to determine whether this is a temporary exclusivity or a permanent thing. However, we expect a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2+ variant later this year. Usually, the Plus units usually bring higher clock speeds, so by the mid of 2023, other flagships will likely get a similar performance. Anyway, we can say that the Korean brand will be able to offer a sort of “Snapdragon 8 Gen 2+ performance” ahead of its competitors. According to tipster Yogesh Brar, the same will happen next year with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.
The tipster says that the new program dubbed “Snapdragon Mobile Platform for Galaxy” will stand in the next year. So, the rumored CPU won’t be ready in time for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. As a result, we may see the Galaxy S24 smartphones packing an exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU.
We are curious to see how fast the Galaxy S23 phones will be in comparison to the other phones with the regular SD8 Gen 2 CPUs. If the performance proves to be much superior, the brand will have a bigger advantage over its rivals. Apart from the performance, the Galaxy S23 series will be just an incremental upgrade over the S22 series. So it may be better to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.
