The rumors about the demise of the Exynos flagship series have been floating since the mid of 2022. Samsung had problems with the Exynos 2200 and had pushed the Snapdragon 8 Gen1-powered Galaxy S22 phones to more territories than planned. After that, rumors pointing to a Snapdragon-only Samsung Galaxy S23 series started to gain special traction. The Korean firm kept a low profile, of course, because it was not happy to accept the inevitable. In November, Qualcomm broke the silence by confirming all Galaxy S23 series phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Shortly after this announcement, we discovered that it was not a simple version of SoC, but a special one. Today, the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 for Galaxy is confirmed.
Snapdragon 8 Gen2 For Galaxy coming to conquer
Samsung and Qualcomm struck a deal for the Galaxy S23 series. However, the Korean firm ensured a specific version of the chip that is not available to other brands. That deal gave life to the “Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy”. Of course, this name is torture for the marketing team. As a result, the Galaxy maker is now teasing it as a “Snapdragon 8 Gen2 for Galaxy”. Apparently, that was a leak and not exactly a teaser. This leak also comes with a series of promo images that reveal a modified SD8 Gen 2 logo.
Gizchina News of the week
These images will be used for marketing purposes. The promo campaign will likely focus on this special CPU edition as an appeal to the competition. The new Galaxy S23 flagships are just a few days from going official. On February 1, the new flagships will hit the market and we expect more Snapdragon 8 Gen2 for Galaxy details to appear shortly after the event.
Samsung will have advantages over the competition
As we’ve said, this particular SoC will be exclusive to Samsung. For now, we don’t know whether this is a temporary or permanent exclusivity. But even if it’s sold as exclusive, we may see it reaching other brands in mid-2023. Some rumors point to stating that Samsung is making this version and not TSMC. If that is the case, then it will be really exclusive. But if it’s all about the CPU and GPU frequencies, then an eventual Snapdragon 8 Gen2+ will likely match or exceed this SoC.
The Korean brand will do everything in its reach to sell this Snapdragon 8 Gen2 for Galaxy as a must. After all, the new Galaxy S23 phones don’t bring many novelties. Apart from the CPU, and a new design for the vanilla and Plus, the 200 MP camera seems to be the only big novelty in the series. As per the rumors, the brand will stick with this partnership for the Galaxy S24 series. By 2025, the company may launch a new in-house chipset.
