Samsungâs latest One UI 5.1 software update has introduced a new feature that has drawn comparisons to an existing iOS feature. The new feature allows users to remove the background from an image, commonly referred to as cutting out an object, with a single tap. This results in a sticker that can be used elsewhere. The feature was first introduced in iOS 16 and has now made its way to Samsungâs One UI 5.1.
The feature is available on Samsungâs Galaxy 23 devices. Despite being a relatively small addition, the feature has garnered much attention and discussion, particularly because of the similarities with the iOS feature.
This useful feature from Samsung is a copycat from Apple iOS
The process for removing the background from an image is simple. After taking a photo, users can open it and press on the object or face they want to crop for around a second. So, a thin white border will appear around the subject, and a contextual menu will appear, allowing users to âcopyâ, âshareâ or âsave as imageâ the cutout. The cutout then becomes a sticker, which can be used on any other image in the gallery or sent to a friend.
While the process is straightforward, itâs worth noting that itâs not as practical as the iOS feature. For example, itâs impossible to drag and drop the content, which can make the process slightly more challenging.
Despite this, the results are impressive. While there may be some occasional inaccuracies, the feature works well overall. In some instances, the phone may group objects together when it detects multiple items. For example, when taking a photo of a living room, the phone may not be able to isolate a vase, and instead, the enclosure and flowerpot are taken into account. Also, itâs worth noting that the feature is exclusive to the Galaxy S23, and not available on other Samsung devices that have the One UI 5.1 update.
