There have been endless rumours over the past two weeks that Mark Cerny, the PS5’s designer, is still in charge of Sony’s PS6 console. The majority of these reports are based on a recent patent from Cerny that outlines a technique for accelerating ray tracing on the PS5. However, more digging shows that this may be for the Sony PS6 instead of the PS5.
At the very least, this rumour concerning the PS6 console’s design is an informed estimate. Twitter users spread reports that Cerny is in charge of the PS6’s design. Cerny was busy at work on the PlayStation brand, “likely to be the PS6,” according to @PS6Countdown. Another user claims to have heard something similar from a reliable source. However, it will be good to take this info with a grain of salt.
Cerny remains in charge of Sony PS6
Cerny’s patent is not built on PS5 tech, according to Digital Foundry’s “Dictator,” who makes this clarification on Resetera’s website. He said, “PS5 and AMD do not have such a unit on any published hardware, while this invention has an RT unit (ray tracing unit) like Intel or Nvidia. This is for later versions of the PlayStation. The Sony PS6 or PS5 Pro/Slim may be referred to as this “iterative version”. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Cerny will be in charge of the creation of the Sony PS6 given that he was the primary system engineer for the PS4, PlayStation Vita, and PS5. The PS6 release date will be after 2027, and “The Last of Us 3” is rumoured to also arrive on the PS6.

Sony PS5 Pro or Slim?
The PS5 Pro could debut as early as April 2023, according to Sony. It should come with a more powerful chip and a more effective cooling system. Phonandroid, citing one of its own informants, provided the info. In contrast to previous reports, the new iteration of Sony’s console will have “Pro” rather than “Slim” in its name. The PlayStation 5 Pro’s new liquid cooling tech will be its main selling point. Typically, gaming PCs use it. Therefore, we can infer that the new system might get an upgraded AMD processor. Liquid cooling can also result in fundamental design modifications.
It’s also important to note that Sony must prevent the PlayStation 5 Pro from ruining the standard PlayStation 5. Similar to how it once did with the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro, Sony wishes the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro to coexist in the market for many years.
Sony PS5 has different generations
Tom Henderson, however, does not believe that all PS5 Pro/Slim reports are correct. He claims that the newest PS5 model is only the “2nd Gen” of the PS5. He also stated that the PS5 of the 1st Gen would be retired at the end of this year. The fact that he has received more rumours about PS6 than PS5 Pro is even more intriguing.
On all the PS5 Pro/Slim rumors – I don't think it's a pro or slim, My understanding is that it's just "gen 2" of the regular PS5.

He believes that Sony wants to produce fewer PS5 models in order to lower production expenses. In the past, using “Pro” might have been a wise commercial decision. However, given the current system and component scarcity, it is no longer logical.
Sony wouldn't cease production of the "gen 1" PS5 if they had different consoles in production for different price points/specs.
The new PS5 will reduce costs in production and shipping because they can produce just one console; with a detachable disc drive.

Prior to this, he had stated that the PS5 game system would experience a significant upgrade in the middle of 2023 and that a new game console would be released in September of that same year. The latter ought to have a DVD disk that is removable.
